Stop the A38 Expansion πππ
@A38Expansion
We're a group of local residents who want to stop the carbon-emitting, polluting, nature-destroying A38 road expansion scheme in Derby| http://a38derbychaos.org
Is National Highways accountable to anyone? Whatever metrics are applied @NationalHways is obviously a failing organisation and yet its leaders (sic) have salaries and pensions to die for. @transportgovuk transportactionnetwork.org.uk/national-highw⦠via @transportactio2

Cannot emphasise how bad this is. Our costs for electrification are dire entirely because we only do it in boom and bust bursts. If you have to train a workforce of 1000s every time you want to do a project itβs always going to lead to cost blowouts as they start from scratch!

I'm calling on the UK Government to stop the proposed changes to Biodiversity Net Gain, which put nature recovery at risk just as the system starts to work. Nature needs time to thrive, not more setbacks. action.rspb.org.uk/page/174378/acβ¦

It would cost around Β£16m and generate Β£3 in social, economic and tourism benefits for every Β£1 spent on it. But somehow it is too expensive?! Meanwhile Β£billions will be spent on low value road schemes. theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/jβ¦

This is the scene at RoseHill today where the construction site borders the SSI of RedHouse Plantation. Mature trees cut down and water gushing into a ditch during a drought/ hosepipe ban. @MyDoncaster @MillerHomesUK please can you explain what is going on. @DonnyFreePress

So, the Govt has decided to give @NationalHways millions of pounds to abandon Qby Tunnel, less than 4 years after the state-owned roads company finished a Β£7.2M programme of works that made the structure safe for future reuse. What a mad world we live in. theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/jβ¦
Four years and 3 months in prison for one tree. While @transportgovuk use millions of tax money to destroy thousands of trees because they can't be bothered to go back to the drawing board and develop a sustainable, non-destructive solution for the A38 Derby junctions.

"This is an incredibly expensive way of enabling new housing at a cost of nearly Β£100,000 per house to taxpayers. Itβs economic madness and shows worrying signs of just how far Labour has strayed from its promises." - @ecochris_todd transportactionnetwork.org.uk/labour-splurgeβ¦
Better transport links that support new homes and create good jobs. That's what people want in their communities. That's what my Plan for Change is delivering. Today we've given the greenlight to major upgrades for our roads and railways, with funding across the country.
"Labour committed in its manifesto to increase rail freight to reduce congestion, improve road safety and journey reliability. Yet it now appears to be actively undermining these outcomes and transport decarbonisation." - @ecochris_todd transportactionnetwork.org.uk/labour-splurgeβ¦
In a message to the mass climate lobby @Keir_Starmer forgot transport (the biggest sector for emissions) and how his government has just funded 33 roads, increasing CO2 emissions by millions of tonnes How is that "unwavering commitment to climate action"? theguardian.com/environment/20β¦
How badly planned house building is destroying our most productive farmland, undermining #FoodSecurity and creating #CarDependentSprawl residential areas - unsuitable for pubs and local shops. Eh @TorstenBell?
How opposing house building is destroying the hopes of young people AND the British village - driving the closure of pubs and local shops π
Roads donβt ease congestion They induce demand
Today, Labour has announced over fifty road and rail upgrades to: β Ease congestion β Cut journey times β Create greater access to jobs and opportunities
Something has gone very wrong when the Labour government gives the go-ahead to low value Tory road schemes while holding back high value rail infrastructure such as at Ely. transportactionnetwork.org.uk/labour-splurgeβ¦
