My first reaction was “Dota wasnt around in the 90s” And then I realized 20 years ago was 2005
senior engineers 20 years ago pushed to prod via ftp then went to play starcraft and dota
Game development, especially game tooling, is one of most difficult domains of programming Massive respect to game devs that undertake their projects
"They don't understand because they're a game developer" is total nonsense. Games are a superset domain. We make editors, servers, databases, build systems, large asset management, etc. If anything, if you're going to dismiss someone, dismiss people who haven't worked on games.
This raises an interesting question Who is accountable for this mistake? Is the the developer for allowing it so much trust and access? Is it the company, and ultimately, the CEO for a product that “misbehaves”? Or is it the AIs fault? How do we have accountability,…

Design your own problems to solve then Or find open ended ones Im solving my own problems
Solving closed ended problems designed by others gets old
I find myself playing less video games and wanting to build way more
Virtual Tabletops each suck in their own way Im an avid tabletop player, especially DnD Im tired of the bloat, slow response times, lack of customizability, and lockin on certain platforms So Im building one from the ground up Its time

Your most important commodities are health, time, and relationships No one escapes death Good reminder that life on earth is short, but those who accept Christ and turn away from sin have eternal life

PhysicGraph just launched, but already looks promising based on the cohort and current curricula Ill be following it closely, youll want to as well
My new project, in collaboration with @sutherlandphys: PhysicsGraph.com Intro to Quantum Computing available now Next is Physics I and II Eventually we'll cover the entire undergraduate physical sciences curriculum
The older I get, the more I do things just for the sheer joy of it Both in consumption and production
Or you can just live and enjoy things without worrying about output. I don't go to an Eric Clapton concert and think "oh boy, I hope this helps me improve my blues chops faster." Just close your eyes, listen to the music, and feel something for crying out loud. Live the moment!
I remember building servers with kickstart files, bash scripts, and having to walk to the datacenter to login when we lost network connectivity to the rack Good times
I have a very zoomer / junior question Back before kuberneyney and containers, what were the common practice for server to deal with app when it crashed? Do they just use systemd / scripts to recover it?
“Claude Code is nothing spectacular.” True, CC is just a model with a tui People with skill issues want CC and other AI models to be more than what they are, tools. This wishful thinking raises the hype and, ironically, slows the adoption rate by those put off by it,…
I know this won't get much engagement, because I'm not selling you snake oil. X rewards the fake brain rot content that exaggerates things. (Maybe one day I'll give in, since it's full of people that appreciate this type of content). But after all the hype, I decided to try…
Ironically, this post seems to be for those with minimal focus Focus is cultivated The two most important commodities that produce focus are prioritization and time The more you practice prioritizing for longer time lengths, the more you produce focus As it grows, you begin…

The 2 best days in a programmers life is starting rust, then abandoning it for c/c++/zig
the 2 best days in a rust programmer's life, the day they start rust and the day they stop rust
Looking forward to all the job security this is going to produce from all the builders with skill issues
Today, there are 47M developers worldwide. Lovable is going to produce 1B potential builders. 8 months in we're already seeing non-technical founders build successful software businesses with Lovable:
False and a negative way to view discipline Discipline just means figuring out your priorities and ruthlessly cutting away what doesnt serve them Theres nothing more self trusting than knowing yourself and optimizing for your deepest priorities, that cause you fulfillment In…
“I need to be more disciplined” often actually translates to “I want to subject myself to more rigorous checks & balances because I don’t trust my own intuition & instincts, and fear losing my false sense of control over my life”
