Meta has spent months touting Instagram Teen Accounts as the solution to teen safety concerns. So we tested Teen Accounts. Our key findings: Instagram recommended sexual content to all of our test-teen accounts despite its promise of "sensitive content controls." Via WaPo. /1

Spot on. “We better find a way to put people at the center of our technology policy” - @HawleyMO
This is the question of our time: Do we want AI to work for PEOPLE, or do we want people to work for AI? Congress needs to protect the American worker, creator, & everyday person
.@DesignItForUs is proud to sign on in opposition to this disastrous AI moratorium
Today, Common Sense Media, @EncodeAction, @NCOSE, @ncypalliance, @fairplayforkids and 170 organizations sent a letter to Congressional leaders urging them to not revive the AI moratorium. See the full letter here: bit.ly/AISafetyLetter
Despite its promise to pursue A.I. policy that promotes human flourishing, Trump 2.0’s A.I. Action Plan is, by and large, yet another, all-too-familiar laissez faire policy plan that does little to anticipate or mitigate the harms of a revolutionary technology. 🧵

The study's authors collected hundreds of examples of how AI features are deployed, and show how tech companies give AI prime real estate, bombard users with pop-ups exhorting them to try AI, highlight AI features above all others and keep AI permanently positioned atop feeds.
Big tech promotes the story that since ChatGPT burst onto the scene, AI has been so popular it's rushed to meet the demand. The reality is different. A study by a trio of design scholars shows tech co's have had to push AI on its users with a variety of intrusive tactics. 1/x
Looks like Trump is trying to back-door the state AI regulatory ban that was rejected in the Senate 99-1. From today's release of the AI "action plan":
"Nothing in document issued last week undercuts conclusion Russia worked to influence 2016 presidential election but didn't successfully manipulate any votes. Findings affirmed in 2020 report by bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee, led by Chair Marco Rubio" Obama's office
.@SenMarkey with @BenBrodyDC talking about how not regulating AI is immoral as we stare down the dangers of a disastrous state AI moratorium.

Really strong quote here from Senator @MarshaBlackburn pushing back on latest attempts to ban states from writing AI regs. She told Politico Morning Tech: “Blocking states from protecting their citizens from the abuse of AI is not an option."

Everyone's complaining about egg price inflation, but now one guy costs what you could get an Instagram for in 2013
Holy moly, Mark Zucker asked Mark Chen if he would consider joining Meta, reportedly offering up to $1 billion dollars via WSJ
The biggest economic issue that no one is talking about: AI is projected to replace 12 million jobs in the next decade. Americans say they're worried about it. But no national politician has a plan for it. A new piece with some ideas, from me, Zoe Jacobs, and Diego Haro. 1/
It's interesting to note that Gen Z was the most opposed to the AI moratorium. We are staring at this stuff straight on, and it's horrifying. The technology is sucking young people in, and they don't like it.
Exclusive for @axios : More singles are getting romantic with an AI bot in D.C. than in most big cities. And the District residents most likely to get flirty with a GPT? Single men and Gen Z-ers ⬇️ axios.com/local/washingt…
🧵Common Sense Media just launched new research on how and why teens are using AI companions. What findings stand out to you most?
