Editorial Board @dissentmag. Think I started trend of labeling modern US Right as “revanchist.” Charming in person, but we’re not there. Also NBA/Warriors.
Anybody indiviidually and within a factional identity can support fascism. Catholics have (Falangism, for one expression) and Catholics will. And Jews have, and Jews will. And everybody else in their various interations can, too. "Cannot" is not the same as "should not."
I cannot believe I have to say this — but Catholics cannot support fascism.
Good hire.
Thrilled about my new role @newrepublic, joining Michael and his excellent team of writers and editors.
Honor where due: Our only great immigrant.
New: House Republicans are trying to rename part of the Kennedy Center for Melania Trump. A GOP amendment on the Interior spending bill states “That the Opera House located in the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts shall be known and designated as the ‘First Lady…
Humor is an essential—species being level—pycho-social value. It can be of great political value—think Swift, of course—or, perversely yet in his gonzo way, Trump. But this ain’t funny. At all. It’s witless and says “fuck” a lot as an empty signifier in lieu of, uh, wit. Bad!
No one does it like Jon Stewart. Watch his reaction to CBS cancelling Stephen Colbert & thank him. Need so more of this.
Sounds like a smart move. Seriously: how many people get cancer anyway?

She has one of the strongest pro-Palestinian voting records in Congress. It’s fair to debate strategy and disagreement over specific choices--but vandalizing her office and saying @AOC “funds genocide” isn’t just wrong. It’s reckless, dishonest, misleading, and deeply unserious.…
.@AOC’s Bronx HQ was redecorated with red paint tonite by a group called the Boogie Down Liberation Front. The group denounced AOC’s vote to fund Israel & the genocide in Gaza & also called out how politicians (like AOC & Ritchie Torres) use the Bronx to further their careers.
Israeli former defense minister & military chief of staff Bogie Yaalon warns current army, security chiefs that mass displacement of civilians & starving of population are war crimes, and that they are obligated to refuse illegal orders.

The point is that we don’t know what the WNBA earns on its own because TV rights deals and corporate sponsorships are bundled with the NBA. Which isn’t a shot at the WNBA or its players. The league is just in an unusual situation
This is not a shot at Ethan who I think is an incisive writer, but I find the "tethered to the NBA" part of this discourse to be untethered from reality. No one suggests the WeWork C-suite shouldn't have been paid competitively because they were "tethered" to SoftBank
lol
President should not be telling the Washington Redskins to change their name-our country has far bigger problems! FOCUS on them, not nonsense
Not enough. Not even remotely close.
Britain and more than 20 other countries called for an immediate end to the war in Gaza and criticised the Israeli government's aid delivery model. King Phillipe of Belgium criticized the situation is Gaza as well. jpost.com/israel-news/ar…
Parodic racism.
President Donald Trump is doubling down. He says he won’t make a deal for the team to build a new stadium if they don’t change their name back to the Washington Redskins. Buckle up.
Within the genre of intra-Jewish argument about Israel/Palestine, this by Shaul Magid (thxs @JohnBJudis)is an extraordinary, chilling piece—it unfolds like a horror story, as much as it does political analysis. We, whoever we may be, must stop this horror: substack.com/@holyroadies/n…
Uganda, notoriously expensive. I heard you need to earn at least eight figures to visit Uganda for even one week.
Guy is a fucking genius politician in a mass democracy, been saying it for months, a generational talent at a key job. His coalition must actively have his back. Worried he’s a rookie, won’t manage the business/media/cop onslaught (although who would?), but he got a gift. Damn.
Good morning! I'm in Uganda to visit family and friends. But depending on your perspective, don't worry or I'm sorry: I'll be back by the end of the month. See you soon, NYC.
