20 Years: Justice Denied. We’ll never forget the killing of innocent Jean Charles de Menezes & the Met’s lies and cover up. Proud to know this inspiring family and be part of their campaign for truth and accountability. It’s a scandal that the police can act with impunity

Approaching the 20th anniversary of the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes by the Met police, this article tells the story of the historic family campaign for justice (I describe my own involvement in a chapter of my book, 'Sister in Law' theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/j…
I wrote about the inside story of the campaign for justice after the killing of Jean Charles de Menezes. A unique time that taught me so much about the power of solidarity theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/j…
20 years on from when we founded the campaign, it's great to see the truth of what happened to Jean Charles de Menezes and the attempted cover up by the Met police finally get the attention it deserves. Highly recommend the new Disney+ series. More here 👇🏽risingup.substack.com/p/justice-for-…

‘All the tools at the disposal of those who want the world to act – journalism, protests, outcry and outrage – cannot end this catastrophe, cannot even capture its gravity.’ theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
Even as a politics lecturer in a Middle East department, I am lost. Israel has a right to self defence, but Lebanon does not? Israelis have the right to be safe, but Palestinians do not? Iran can’t launch missiles into civilian areas, but Israel can? None of this is coherent.
"We stand with Israel, and recognise her right to self defence in the face of this aggression." UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is addressing the British public after Iran launched missiles towards Israel. trib.al/df1dN4r 📺 Sky 501

2\ Haniya lived in the open & NOT in hiding like Sinwar. So reaching his head is NOT an achievement. Why kill him now? 1- Ruin the ceasefire/prisoner swap negotiations 2- Kill chances of Palestinian unity after Beijing's summit 3- Push Hamas to become more hardline

The two-child limit on benefits has not yet been fully rolled out. As this process continues, it will increasingly weigh down on the incomes of the poorest large families. Over a third of the roll-out is still to come, at which point around 720,000 families will be affected.
The immigration system is broken — but for one man it’s been a goldmine. Our investigation with @prospect_uk reveals how asylum housing tycoon Graham King became one of the country’s richest men prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/polic… 🧵#longreads
What are safe routes? What are the legal routes?
Labour’s treatment of Diane Abbott is an absolute disgrace. Rotten, bullying factionalism that shows us the party views racism purely as a game, a thing to be weaponised when politically convenient
'Aren't Arabs terrified? Don't Arab women weep when their children are bombed?' Remembering Tony Benn on what would have been his 99th birthday.
I'm currently 8 1/2 months pregnant and as I prepare to give birth in the luxery of the UK, I think about the themes of this video, and the pregnant mothers of Gaza on most days. Don't let our political representatives look away from this horror #Ceasefirenow

"As we move even closer to the general election, race, whether explicitly or implicitly, is at the heart of the debate in British politics. And the issue is not just about a particular political party, but all of our institutions" @HackneyAbbott theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
Clearly, they don't want to give the money back because they don't want the other racists to feel unwelcome.
I made a rare decision to watch PMQs to see how this issue be handled and was incensed to keep seeing Diane get up and yet not be offered the chance to speak. It's disgraceful.
The speaker's refusal to call @HackneyAbbott is shocking. Solidarity Diane. The racism in British politics runs deep. Before the election of Abbott, Grant & Boateng in 1987, there had never been a Black MP. From 1920s-80s, there were no MPs who weren't white. Still shocks me.
