Can synapses in the brain switch their signs between excitatory and inhibitory during learning🚦? Can they act more like weights in artificial neural networks, able to switch signs based on experience 🔃? Excited to share my thesis work in @blsabatini lab! 🧵 ⬇️ (1/13)
Excited to share new work from our lab, John Assad + @blsabatini! We show reward-related signaling of dopamine (DA) neurons exerts one-shot calibrating updates to movement timing—a measure of vigor. #Dopamine #Neuroscience @WhiteheadInst @harvardmed doi.org/10.1101/2025.0…
📣📣 Exciting opportunity to present your work at Vanderbilt! Please apply and help me spread the word!
We have an updated version of our fluorescence lifetime simulation manuscript now: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…. We have included a Python version of the package in addition to the original Matlab package. We hope this is useful for the community and welcome feedback.
Our paper, "The promise and peril of comparing fluorescence lifetime in biology revealed by simulations", is now on @eLife: doi.org/10.7554/eLife.…. Hope readers will use our package to design and interpret FLIM experiments rigorously, and also give us feedback.
Excited to start a new lab at Florida State University this summer! @PsychologyFSU @FSUNeuroscience We’ll study how the brain enables generalization to support decision-making in novel situations. KiraLab.org We’re recruiting—please RT or share with anyone interested!
Congrats to Kim Reinhold, soon to launch her own group in the Eaton Peabody Labs, on this labor of love. Basically, she shows that the visually recipient zone of the striatum mediates outcome-dependent trial to trial updates of behavior. nature.com/articles/s4158…
1/ Why do late-stage cancer patients lose motivation & sink into apathy? 🔥Our new Science paper shows cancer activates a cytokine-sensing brain circuit to lower motivation.Great work by Aelita Zhu @sarahstarosta @Pignatelli_Lab @JanowitzTobias &team!🧵 🔗 doi.org/10.1126/scienc…
Why do individuals with late-stage cancer sometimes struggle with motivation and experience profound apathy? In this multi lab effort @KepecsLab @JanowitzTobias and my lab we are tackling this question 👇🏻 😊 science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
We are looking for a new lab manager. It's a demanding job but an exciting one with lots of room for growth as a scientist and manager. Consider applying even if you are currently a senior tech but interesting in moving into a lab manager position. hhmi.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/External/job/H…
Excited to present the result of a fantastic collaborative effort - funded by the National Institutes of Health, including the NIH HEAL Initiative, to develop safer analgesic drugs. nature.com/articles/s4158…
🚨New paper out!🚨 Excited to share the latest from our group. This 5yr long odyssey was led by Susan @DutcherLab and Steve Brody @slbzz. We address a key question: why do some PCD patients develop more severe lung disease than others? Check it out 👇 science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
