I went to see Jeremy Hunt giving a talk about Jeremy Hunt and afterwards signing copies of his book about Jeremy Hunt newstatesman.com/politics/uk-po…

The paragraph break here is delicious: newstatesman.com/politics/uk-po…

Inside this week’s cover story: 💥 Tories discuss whether or not Badenoch is an “anchor baby” 💥 Badenoch’s alleged Scottish speech aides from Fraser Nelson to Niall Ferguson 💥 Badenoch’s 2022 leadership speech delayed - by a Deliveroo McDonalds breakfast order 💥 Badenoch’s…

So many incredible details in this epic (and at times hilarious) profile of Kemi Badenoch by the @NewStatesman’s ace deputy editor, @Will___lloyd — I think this was my favourite:

Months of reporting and a slew of unearthed details come together in a profile of literally the highest quality, by @Will___lloyd Kemi was supposed to be the saviour of the Tory party — what happened?

Sorry everyone, just spent another £2.2bn 😂
Tongue in cheek suggestion from @willydunn that pensioners should receive an summer cooling allowance. But having polled the idea over the weekend we found a majority would back it with just 1 in 5 opposed. Young people being the most supportive of a pensioner cooling allowance.
All I'm asking is that all pensioners be given an extra bit of money to cope with the rising cost of high-quality tonic water; a "tipple lock", if you will newstatesman.com/politics/uk-po…

The replies to this are a good demonstration of how many people on Twitter respond immediately to a headline without reading the article

“I have no ideological position on this conflict. I approach it simply as a lawyer and a historian. But I sometimes wonder what Israel’s defenders would regard as unacceptable, if the current level of Israeli violence in Gaza is not enough. This is not self-defence. It is not…
School catering firms make millions while children eat Bad Pie. The quality of school meals has been falling dramatically in the cost-of-living crisis – and the proof is in the pudding. @willydunn newstatesman.com/business/2025/…
ROBERT JENRICK: THE HARBINGER Nigel Farage has been thinking about Robert Jenrick. He recognises something in the younger man. An energy, an ability to channel attention towards himself, what Farage calls “vim”. “I’ll give him credit for some good videos,” he told…

Wait til they find out how socialist the actual bible is. The New Testament is full of free stuff. Fishes, loaves, wine, leprosy treatment, you name it
A truly biblical NS cover on p.4 of the Daily Mail today
I wrote about what yesterday's PMQs revealed about Rachel Reeves newstatesman.com/politics/econo…

How would a u-turn blow a huge hole in the public finances? A u-turn is just not doing something. It returns to the status quo. So we agree that the Conservatives left the public finances in tatters, and that Labour needs to take much bigger steps to fix them?
After the farcical scenes yesterday, reality dawns for the government. Keir Starmer’s u-turns and capitulations have blown an enormous hole in the public finances. And who is going to pay for this rank incompetence? Labour’s magazine of choice makes it clear: all of us.

See? Even David Frost agrees that Britain is not a high-tax country (he is concerned that it could "turn into" one). Here's the tax "wedge" on a single worker on average income in... Germany 47.9% France 47.2% OECD average 34.9% Japan 32.6% Canada 32% USA 30.1% UK 29.4%
NO NO NO. The pitch is being rolled to turn Britain into a high tax country. It is incredible that the deranged leftists at the New Statesman can claim "middle earners, the people Reeves and Starmer’s advisers worry about the most, are not being taxed enough". Incredible…
Uncomfortable, damning, and forensic analysis by my colleague @willydunn on the UK's financial mess. After last night’s defeat on welfare reforms, Rachel Reeves cannot tweak her way out of this crisis, he says. Tax rises are inevitable newstatesman.com/politics/econo…
Sarah Vine confirms that “plenty” is wrong with her
Thanks @IainDale - I shan't read it. But in answer to this genius's question, 'what's wrong with Sarah Vine', I would say plenty. But at least I can admit it. Also, the @NewStatesman is just a lefty echo chamber. His readers aren't interested in anything that challenges their…
