Ofcom's 2025 Public Service Media Review - once a landmark moment for UK broadcasting - has been a complete waste of time. Its report is nothing but a sop to the collapsing status quo. No ideas on funding, production or relevance other than making PSBs partner with streamers
Who gets to shape the future of public service media? Ofcom's latest report focuses on industry needs—but where is the support for independent, local and civic media? Shouldn't trusted communication start in our own communities? @ofcom @dcms @lisanandy wp.me/pa8IVH-3wT
Anyone who cares about the funding+future of @bbcworldservice please consider coming to the parliamentary debate on this in Westminster Hall 3pm Thursday 26th June and please email your MP to ask them to be there! Please allow 20-30minutes before entry for security checks.
Protect UK #democracy. Only 5 days to tell @Ofcom why politicians shouldn't present news OR current affairs programmes. More details here vlv.org.uk/wp-content/upl…

Great piece on why public service media is so important to our national conversation & identity.

Pls read our submission vlv.org.uk/wp-content/upl… on why we think @Ofcom's evidence in support of not restricting politicians from presenting “current affairs” as well as “news" programmes is flawed & send Ofcom your views.
So, to summarise... Ofcom: It's totally fine for sitting MPs to host GB News current affairs shows, but they should never ever host news shows. Viewers: These GB News current affairs shows look a lot like news shows. Ofcom: As you were.

Scarily naive interview by @Ofcom on BBC Media Show. Farage may be allowed to present GB News show during election campaign as long as he's "duly impartial". Seriously? And Ofcom could even reach a decision on rule-breaking "within 48 hours"!!
Pls read our submission vlv.org.uk/wp-content/upl… on why we think @Ofcom's evidence in support of not restricting politicians from presenting “current affairs” as well as “news" programmes is flawed.
I've supported Ofcom in fostering diversity of views. But they've got this one wrong. They're creating a gulf between 'News' & 'Current Affairs' that doesn't exist; and they rely too much on audience perceptions. There has to be an editorial grip on what is impartial and fair.

New article alert: I argue Ofcom should rethink allowing politicians to present broadcast programming because audiences appear uncomfortable with it and want impartial reporting @CardiffJomec @Cardiffuninews @ConversationUK @ahrcpress Thread 1/10 theconversation.com/why-ofcom-want…

We are so sorry to hear the news that Alan Yentob has died. "Alan Yentob was a huge supporter of everything that is best about public service broadcasting. He will be greatly missed" - Colin Browne, Chair, VLV.

Great article here. We welcome @Ofcom's review as we don't believe that current legislation provides clear definitions of which content should be impartial. It's essential to get this right to mitigate the decline in public trust of the media & protect our democracy.

The MRC is the first organisation to offer an interpretation as to what mutualisation of the @BBC might look like, focusing on the principles of public accountability & the role of the audience beyond just consumer. We urge everyone to read the full report & comment.
The BBC is failing its audiences, captured by elites & unaccountable to the public With UK media dominated by oligarchs & Big Tech, we need a democratic alternative Read our new report w/ @Cmmonwealth on transforming the BBC into a Public Service Mutual: common-wealth.org/publications/o…
Ofcom is consulting on whether politicians should present news programmes & the deadline is 23 June ofcom.org.uk/tv-radio-and-o…
Another great Beebwatch - the impartiality issue should be front & centre of legislation as regulator @Ofcom loses its first ever judicial review against @GBNEWS #isitnewsorcurrentaffairs
