NEW STATEMENT | Open the Gates to Save a Starving Gaza Gaza is tipping from mass starvation toward mass death. Israel must allow assistance in immediately. The strip needs both an end to Israel’s siege and a ceasefire, urgently. crisisgroup.org/middle-east-no…
As a longtime humanitarian who has battled famines and hunger crises, I fear that starvation in Gaza has now passed the tipping point and we are going to see mass-scale starvation mortality. A thread on famine momentum, famine response, and what it means for Gaza today.

When armed men stormed the Radwan guesthouse in Sweida, Hatem did what tradition dictated: he offered them coffee. His offer was met with bullets, as the assaillants opened fire on the family, killing a dozen of Hatem’s relatives. thenationalnews.com/news/mena/2025…
Airdrops are very expensive (money spent on flights instead of food), volumes are too small, distribution is impossible as hungry crowds rush to get something, aid can’t be distributed fairly, people get killed. This is more distraction and deflection: it allows Israel to…
Israel will now allow Arab countries to resume the airdrops of food into Gaza. This is a step that hasn't happened for many months. It happened last year when the humanitarian situation was extremely dire. At the same time Israeli officials continue to claim there is no…
Disappointed the French court invalidated Assad’s arrest warrant. shocked to think the’d be immune from prosecution for gassing civilians if he were still in power. Glad he’s no longer in office, and justice can still be served. My heart is with victims denied justice by immunity

Yesterday three young Alawite men were stopped at a checkpoint outside their village of Karto #Tartous and beat by security members. Ahmed died of his wounds. The town held a funeral protest today and the checkpoint members were arrested. Now we must see what their punishment is
It's important that Bedouin civilians are able to share their testimony on State TV and local media. But where are the voices of Druze survivors, or do we deny they've suffered? And why were accounts of Alawite victims from the massacres in March entirely absent in Syrian media?
In fact, most intl lawyers will tell you genocide is NOT more severe than crimes against humanity -- they're just different crimes. So let's stop platforming non-experts (👀NYT), but let's also stop giving air to the argument that these labels change what's owed to Gaza's people.
There are lawyers who've dedicated their whole career to categorizing mass atrocities under intl law. But the purpose of these technical labels are for the legal system & for the courts, they're not meant to establish a hierarchy or tell people and governments when to care more.
I find the "genocide vs not" debate highly disingenuous. If the label you place on the erasure of a people; the starvation of civilians; the targeting of men, women, children in their homes, tents, hospitals, churches, mosques, is what changes your reaction, you're the problem.
Claims have been circulating, alleging that a leaked audio recording features Syrian Public Security Chief Ahmad Al-Dalati calling on individuals not to share footage of military operations in Suwayda. However, this claim is misleading. Our OSINT search using the “Hiya Deepfake…
With all due respect to work done by Reuters, I believe information collected by the Fact Finding Committee should primarily be compared to the upcoming report of @UNCoISyria - which will be based on higher standards of proof and legal-based assessment of command responsibility
Which is not great for a report that’s supposed to offer neutral, fact-based accountability. What they should be doing now is releasing the entire report for a proper assessment. Reuters should provide more clarification of the obtained evidence.
🚨Share widely. Students at Syria’s universities, especially those from Suwayda, are being subjected to a hateful incitement campaign that puts their lives, freedoms & safety at grave risk. Not the first time students have been targeted because of their sect since Assad’s fall.
Summary report and public briefing by #Syrian fact-finding committee on coastal violence is positive first step in process of obtaining truth & justice for all Syrians. @UNCoISyria urges prompt release of report, full implementation of its recommendations & human rights-compliant…
Syrian civil society orgs urge @SyPresidency to publicly release full report of Fact Finding Committee and to provide full clarity on the follow-up steps that the government will take to implement recommendations outlined by the Committee - calling for accountability and reform

The Syrian government vows to punish those behind field executions in Suwayda—even if they belong to its own forces. Interior & Defense ministries launch investigations after footage goes viral. 🔗 wp.me/p7cv3Y-mTI #Suwayda #Syria #HumanRights
"UN experts alarmed by targeted abductions&disappearances of Alawite women and girls" - calling for immediate remedial action (opposite of State response which denied/dismissed concerns), prompt investigations, and safe/gender-sensitive reporting channels ohchr.org/en/press-relea…
However, this is a very strong claim and now more than ever needs to be substantiated beyond doubt. Could this evidence be shared with trusted 3rd parties (e.g., reputable human rights organisations like HRW or AI) who could do the work of verifying it? Has it been?
