It doesn't surprise me that Assadists spread disinformation to cater to the worst of the West's racist Islamophobic discourses. But it disgusts me to see comrades from the revolution turn to Assadist tactics to obfuscate horrific massacres of civilians. The same exact playbook.

Really strikes me how callous some external pundits are when they claim exact same things would’ve happened in Syria had Assad resigned in 2011. Here’s a sample photo I took from Damascus suburbs. This devastation wouldn’t have happened had Assad de-escalated by resigning in 2011

كل التعاطف مع المدنيين الي عم يتهجرو قسراً من قراهم وبيوتهم وما الهن لا ناقة ولا جمل كل التعاطف مع المدنيين الي انتهكت حرمات بيوتهن وسلبت منهم حياتهم وكراماتهم وأحرقت محلاتهم وأرزاقهم بس لأنهم بينتمو لطائفة دون أخرى يا حيف على كل مين قتل وروّع وحرّض على نفوس بريئة مالها ذنب.

The scenes of displacement are painful. We keep edging closer to fulfilling Assad’s mad fantasy of a Syria with a “homogenous society”. Granted, the face of this homogeneity may be different, but its logic is just as violent, sinister and barren.

A separate Sweida statelet is untenable. But it’d be insane to think any Druze would agree to direct rule by the current regime in Damascus. We go back to the status quo ante, just with massive bloodshed, destruction of Bedouin and Druze communities and generational mistrust.

The problem with impunity and the syrian government not doing anything about its own ranks after their involvement in the massacre of Alawites in March. Expect a major slowdown or completely reversal on US sanctions relief.
