Libertarianism gets a bad rap, and much of it is deserved because lots of libertarians just want to legalise drugs, nothing more. But at its core it's resisting crap like this. A people with a more libertarian tendency would never have allowed it.
The Tea app data leak and the UK introducing age verification *on the same day* is just far too on the nose.
The irony is, democracy didn't help legitimise the political system, in the long run it's sapped legitimacy from the political system. This is because the more democratic our systems have become, the more difficult it's become to maintain an elite capable of managing the system.
