Oh, hello!
The most obvious example of this is in Rome, where the Roman elite and the Caesars would obsess about public opinion. Bread and circuses weren't for the pleasure of the elite.
The idea that public opinion had no influence on governments before universal/near universal suffrage is clearly false. The elites tended to pay attention to riots, mass political mobilization, etc and their response was usually a mixture of repression and concession
This is pretty funny. A blow to France's self-image as a global power. But the sad thing is, it's true of every European nation. We've made ourselves irrelevant, for better or worse, and regardless of what you think about Macron's views on Palestine.
US President Donald Trump on French President Emmanuel Macron: "Here’s the good news, what he [Macron] says doesn’t matter. His statement doesn’t carry any weight."
How tragic. But our tradition of unarmed community policing developed in a particular culture. The more you bring in non British people, the more the culture that made that possible is diluted, until it’s no longer possible to maintain these nice things.
It’s inevitable at this point that the UK will need a gendarmerie, probably no more than 6 or 7 years away
The triple lock and our bloated healthcare system are broken, unaffordable, and dragging Britain toward bankruptcy. If we don’t get our house in order, the IMF will do it for us. And when they do, it won’t be pretty.
Disregarding everything else, did boomers really expect random foreigners to pay for their pensions?
If there are 20 million less working age people, who is going to pay for the pension system?
There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country.
“We should use less energy” is one of the most morally repugnant beliefs when you dig into it. On par with communism.
The public mood is changing. "Some 53 per cent of those polled said they believed Islam is not compatible with British values" telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/07/2…
