I love my friends & family, tracking the ROI for taxpayers in local government, and pizza. Proud supporter of working families and former D.C. Council member.
Tennis is the only sport where winning 52% of the points makes you a legend.
lol lander was basically everyone's second choice
Josh Shapiro and Rahm Emanuel Fault Zohran Mamdani Over ‘Intifada’ Line Ok. Now @nytimes, tell me when Emanuel & Shapiro faulted Netanyahu for starving Gaza, causing many to hate Israel and Jews. Because I am concerned about both. nytimes.com/2025/07/24/us/… via @NYTimes
I hope a reporter asks @MayorBowser and @ChmnMendelson about what actions they are taking to prevent this from happening again the next time they are asked about a football stadium or the team’s name. I won’t hold my breath. Read the story.
Social workers knew of a mother’s troubled history. Then her toddler died of hunger and thirst in her custody. washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2025/…
D.C. voters: @ChmnMendelson is saying he doesn't think you are very smart or have much to say. That's the second time a member of the @councilofdc has insulted taxpayers and voters in a week or so. I think getting back $30 mil a year for $4 billion in taxpayer $$ is insulting.
Lawmakers recognize it's not the best look to announce an RFK agreement days before the public hearings, so here's how some responded today. I found this from Mendo notable: "In terms of the financial structure, I'm not sure we're gonna get a lot of testimony that's on point."
If a wealthy professional athlete needs to come out of retirement to afford to see a doctor, how is our health care system impacting millions of working-class Americans? We need Medicare for All.
I've said this for years about the harm of the X Files! nytimes.com/2025/07/19/art…
Again my plea: UDC or 1 of DC’s universities should do polling of local races like Goucher does in MD or Marist in NY. It helps even w ranked choice voting because in the NYC mayor’s race Brad Lander knew he couldn’t win and basically threw his support against Cuomo & for Mamdani
DC Code requires ODCA to certify that @TheEventsDC has the projected tax/operating evenues & excess reserves to meet projected expenditures/reserve requirements for each new fiscal year; we found✅for FY26 ...with $219M in excess revenue. bit.ly/3Itcjno
I just figured out what a "growth budget" means. The proposed budget will certain grow every racial gap in DC: the health equity gap, the income gap, the opportunity gap, the housing gap.
Reminder: the plan to shift ppl off Medicaid into a Basic Health Plan depends on an Oct IT rollout (on track to achieve) & CMS approval. And, the benefits package is far less robust than Medicaid. Also, 10% of 25k losing Medicaid will be thrown into Marketplace with no $ support
More workers will be hurt by this — bussers, barbacks, valets, who are likely immigrants afraid to ask for their full wage. This city needs solutions that keep restaurants in business and workers paid fairly. This is such a duplicitous, cynical, inequitable budget move.
"It is clear from the industry, the employers and employees, that the implementation of this initiative has been very problematic," says @ChmnMendelson. "Workers who are the ones affected by this are opposed to the initiative."
Wow, @Markein is really doing well in this budget, getting a football and tennis stadium!
The Council's budget is out, and while there's a ton to dig through yet, how's this for a start: DC is getting control of Ward 4's Rock Creek Tennis Center from the feds, and will pay $9M to upgrade it. A deal has been in the works here for a while: wamu.org/story/25/06/12…
So admirable given what happened moments before.
It wasn't the day Amanda Anisimova dreamed of, but she spoke with class and grace as she thanked her team and in particular her mum for being there 💚💜 #Wimbledon
Mamdani, Urged to Keep Tisch as Police Commissioner, Is Considering It nytimes.com/2025/07/09/nyr…
Wow that’s so weird. I wonder if it’s related to why they went on strike
I’m going to miss David. He was on the ballot w me every election. He was a champion of protecting our planet. He amplified the voices of the least powerful. He testified in favor of every bill to strengthen the rights of workers. And he was funny. May his memory be a blessing.
I'm saddened to learn of the passing of David Schwartzman, a dear friend and longtime DC activist. David was a passionate educator, an ally of working people, and fervent advocate for climate and economic justice. He will be sorely missed.
Gotta love this despite the corruption
Come make my favorite summer drink with me. This recipe is tasty and will help protect you during NYC's incoming heat wave!
Maybe Americans care about politics including local politics when it really speaks to what they care and worry about. Maybe his solutions are uncertain in success but Mamdani clearly hit a home run on identifying the message.
Shooting our videos is a little bit different now.
