The @ASSCnews has criticised Ross Greer MSP’s latest proposal to impose punitive taxes on short-term lets in an apparent attempt to protect Gaelic-speaking communities. The industry has labelled his barmy plans as an evidence-free and ideologically driven fixation. Indeed, this…
Ahh Greer, the taxpayer funded manchild strikes again. Gaelic isn’t fading because of Airbnbs, it’s fading because many young people leave for work or don’t choose to speak it. You can’t tax people into preserving a language. The Greens’ holiday home surcharge is political…
Scottish Greens think taxing holiday homes will ‘save Gaelic’. Newsflash: languages die from lack of use, not lack of property tax. What an idiot.
📢 ASSC Responds to Ross Greer’s Latest Attack on Scotland’s Self-Catering Sector Ross Greer MSP has proposed punitive new taxes on short-term lets in an apparent attempt to protect Gaelic-speaking communities - an approach the industry has described as “evidence-free and…
Councils claim "it's not a ban" on self-catering — but they're manipulating planning rules to guarantee failure. 🔹 Subjective conditions 🔹 Inconsistent application of rules 🔹 Businesses shut down one by one A ban in all but name. #AbuseOfPower @SaveSCScotland @ASSCnews

The weeds in Edinburgh are a disgrace @Edinburgh_CC. It has nothing to to do with glyphosphate! Just look at the state of the Melville Monument.
Mallorca’s restaurants are half-empty – not because tourists aren’t coming, but because they’re cutting back. 📉 Overpriced accommodation = “sandwich tourists” 💸 Less local spend = fragile economy Scotland, take note. Overregulation comes at a cost. 🔗 en.tempo.co/read/2031805/s……
The STL licensing playbook... 💡Green activist has idea 📰Social media campaign 👮Receptive politician (Andy Wightman) 👀Failed legislative scrutiny 🙅♂️Weak consultation process 🍝Complex & oppressive law passed 🔥Business closures ❤️🔥Job losses 📉Economic impact @_KateForbes
@SimonCalder terrible suggestions on @BBCRadioScot- disappointing. Festival in Nov?! Have you been to Edinburgh in Nov? Tax tourists to fuck = make Edinburgh accessible only to the very rich. Aspersions of industrial scale Airbnb - have you seen the stats? Lazy lack of research.
It's the lanyards behind the MSPs and Councillors. Paul Finklestein sorry now Paul Lawrence should be held to account for the mess he's made in Edinburgh.
This may need explained... Secondary Lets - full time 24/7/365 self catering units Home Letting - you own a home and let it out temporarily (not full time permanent) Home Sharing - you own a home & decide to let a spare bedroom to guests (not full time permanent) #SaveSC
Selective data is misleading. Look at the total number of full time registered 'secondary lets' licensed by the city council for accurate numbers. It paints a different story. It's 2k not 9k & since new legislation we now have a huge unsafe unpoliced black market. #SaveSC

The lanyards have wreaked havoc in the visitor economy closing thousands of self catering and B&B businesses (mainly run by women) across Scotland. A fantastic group of women in the @ASSCnews have been fighting tirelessly to save all of us. @ForWomenScot @jk_rowling
"Right now, lurking in offices across Scotland, there are overconfident and under- qualified men and women who hold in their hands – and seem indecently eager to exercise – the power to destroy careers." ✍️ @euanmccolm
No boarded up shops, a vibrant city economy, teeming with restaurants and bars, an overload of cultural events... the rest of 🏴 would give anything for Edinburgh's success.
Seriously, a simple AI search makes more sense than this article. 🙄 you should not be posting articles that lack credibility - you're adding to the enormous harm done to local, small self-catering businesses @SaveSCScotland
Quoted data is way off. Look at the total number of full time registered 'secondary lets' licensed by @Edinburgh_CC for accurate numbers. It paints a different story. It's 2k not 9k & since new legislation we now have a huge unsafe unpoliced black market. #SaveSC
Self Catering occupancy in 🏴 is declining in '25 compared to '24. Meanwhile the sector has NI increases, STL licensing and a Visitor Levy to contend with. Stronger for Scotland? @_KateForbes @Ivan_McKee Source: @ASSCnews (Key Data insights)
Cities evolve and old employers like the brewery have close. Before the 90s many of students moved into the Mile which put families off due to parties. Also lack of parking and noise from buskers. Yesterday there was a comedian, piper and jackhammer competing outside our window
Andrew, Andrew, Andrew, for the love of evidence-based data, please retract the incorrect figures. We desperately need integrity in reporting. Irreparable damage has already been caused to small, local self-catering businesses & articles like these cause more harm @SaveSCScotland
