We read this paper that analyzed spiny ray development in acanthomorpha in a lab meeting. The ontogenetic processes are a bit different between spines and rays ! Great study @HO81JfYpDp72566 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Started from ontogenetic and molecular studies of living species, authors found reciprocally cavitated joints in placoderms -extinct armored fish. Placoderms can move pectoral fins very smoothly!! Congrats @42neelima @NeilShubin @Yara_Haridy ! #Teamfish #evodevo

Woke up with percentile 5 for an NIH proposal. I deserve a bottle of wine tonight.
A fish specialist position in Nakamura lab is still open. Great opportunity to learn fish husbandry, genetics, and evodevo with zebrafish, skates, and some other unique fish. Thanks RT!!
As Elaina is successfully moving to a master school of E&E this spring, we are looking for a fish specialist/lab tech. If you are interested in this position, contact me. Thank you for RT!! nakamuralab.com @RutgersU @RutgersSASDLS #Teamfish #evodevo

Scientists do science not politics. The situation is very concerning and massive thread to basic science. But please do remember - we are scientists and change the world using the power of science. That’s our heart. Focus on your science whatever happens. We won’t be distracted.
Today, our lab read nature.com/articles/s4146… from @aimeezun lab showing two distinct cell populations determine the number and identity of digits. We found two genetic modules generates skate and shark fin diversity a while ago. Very intriguing.... pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
