Universities are not passive beneficiaries of government largesse. It is the federal government that depends on universities to conduct the research that keeps our nation healthy, safe and economically competitive.I discuss in the Washington Post. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2025/…
Some journals are claiming that you need to pay big $$ for gold open access to comply with NIH's new public access policy. FYI that is total bs. You can comply by depositing the Accepted Manuscript into PubMed Central on the Date of Publication without embargo. Pass it on.

Dr. McNutt, Defending science is NOT partisan and reflexive self preservation is NOT leadership.
Dr. Rasmussen - I'd be happy to engage with you on ideas of how to stand up for science without turning the NASEM into a partisan institution. My goal is to make science bipartisan again. Science benefits the entire nation regardless of who is in the White House.
So unless something changes the NIH budget for FY26 remains at the FY25 levels (which is really the FY24 levels) ~48 billion. Not great in absolute terms but a hella lot better than what the white house and house wanted. Same with NSF - stays at ~9
"missing information" = all of the data we stole from the federal government computer systems...
We will use Grok 3.5 (maybe we should call it 4), which has advanced reasoning, to rewrite the entire corpus of human knowledge, adding missing information and deleting errors. Then retrain on that. Far too much garbage in any foundation model trained on uncorrected data.
Totally subtweeting people supported by HHMI or friend’s venture capitalist hubby who dramatically claim that (checks notes) "Our institutions are turgid. Our funding system punishes creativity/ambition.” and that (LOL!) "Prestige and credit dominate motivations. Seriously WTAF?!

More than 5 million people took part in "No Kings" demonstrations in over 2,100 cities and towns across the country, with an additional 300 "Kick Out the Clowns" rallies being held. Philadelphia saw more than 100,000 attendees and Chicago 75,000, while smaller towns such as…

no kings was the largest political protest in u.s. history
LOL Chicago would like w word #NOKINGS
The so-called No Kings protests have been a complete and utter failure with minuscule attendance. It is sad Democrats and liberals would rather support criminals and illegals instead of celebrating the 250th anniversary of our great U.S. Army and Flag Day. But many more Americans…
