We are opposed to the proposed Lower Thames Crossing as it is totally destructive, creates a toxic triangle and will still leave Dartford Crossing over capacity
Important coverage by @TransportActio2 in @guardian today, showing that if PFI is used for Lower Thames Crossing, the tolls at Dartford and LTC could TRIPLE! theguardian.com/world/2025/may…
The government-owned company missed or is likely to miss 5 of its 12 key performance indicators, including: The number of people killed or seriously injured on the strategic road network #RoadSafety
Our assessment shows National Highways delivered significant improvements for road users in the second road period, from 2020 to 2025. However, the company must now learn lessons from its missed commitments as it prepares for the next road period. 📊 orr.gov.uk/search-news/or…

The £10bn+ Lower Thames Crossing won't help all the many households in Essex and Kent who don't have a car, and need affordable public transport instead.
Once upon a time, long ago, there was a Thames crossing, ELRiC which would have trashed Oxleas Wood, which then became Thames Gateway Bridge, which was then scrapped. Now the govt have finally given up land rights. We will also stop Lower Thames Crossing✊ gov.uk/government/spe…
Brilliant to see alternatives that don’t cost the earth! This research is vital for greener transport systems 🚗
@NationalHways is an organisation without morals, they care not a jot for these very unfortunate people who will lose their homes to compulsory purchase.
The stories here are absolutely heartbreaking. People forced out of their homes for a road scheme that was never built. Many people have been intimidated and coerced out of their homes for the Lower Thames Crossing, yet it is not a done deal as no finance bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
There are alternatives to the Lower Thames Crossing and they bring better results at a fraction of the cost! transportactionnetwork.org.uk/essex-kent-sup…

🚂 | NEW REPORT: Britain’s transport system is failing people on low incomes — locking them out of work, health, and opportunity. Our new report sets out how to fix it 👇 ippr.org/articles/the-t…
An ex-DfT roadbuilder here, trying to blame other people for National Highways deliberately and consistently underestimating the cost of their road projects in order to secure approval
This is a classic case of deflection and ignores the incompetence of National Highways & government. After all it's always good to blame someone else. Take the M3 J9 scheme as an example. No legal challenge but in two years from planning to approval scheme costs rocketed 35%
Something has gone very wrong when the Labour government gives the go-ahead to low value Tory road schemes while holding back high value rail infrastructure such as at Ely. transportactionnetwork.org.uk/labour-splurge…
The road and rail investments we have announced today touch every corner of Britain. Have a look at our interactive map to see the projects that will make a difference in your area.👇 gov.uk/government/new…
Other options for crossing the Thames near Dartford had never been properly explored and were dismissed on the flimsiest of reasons in 2009! Our report, based on the research by Jonathan Roberts, shows there are alternatives to the Lower Thames Crossing transportactionnetwork.org.uk/essex-kent-sup…
Yes, and the £10bn Lower Thames Crossing will also be a 'Smart' motorway in all but name. National Highways' own data shows the LTC will also INCREASE road deaths and serious injuries
Since coming into existence (as Highways England) in 2015, National Highways has spent a fraction of its huge budgets on safety schemes, with the vast majority going on schemes to increase road capacity, including so-called “Smart motorways” transportactionnetwork.org.uk/road-safety-re…

In a message to the mass climate lobby @Keir_Starmer forgot transport (the biggest sector for emissions) and how his government has just funded 33 roads, increasing CO2 emissions by millions of tonnes How is that "unwavering commitment to climate action"? theguardian.com/environment/20…
Why the picture of a shiny train, when most of the money is being splurged on outdated road schemes, like £10bn Lower Thames Crossing and £2bn A66? Funny there's no ££ for disabled, elderly and SEND kids, but money to burn for road schemes that only benefit construction companies
More poor value road schemes being given the go-ahead today, along with the £10bn Lower Thames Crossing. The government is wasting money on expensive white elephant road schemes, whilst cutting money from the poorest in society. PIP paying for roads 😪😡 transportactionnetwork.org.uk/labour-splurge…
Can you explain why the government has failed to announce funding for Ely and Haughley junctions, a rail freight scheme that has a far superior value compared to the many roads funded today? transportactionnetwork.org.uk/labour-splurge…
The government needs to stop making empty promises and actually support making our roads safer by moving freight onto rail. transportactionnetwork.org.uk/funding-for-1-…
Appalling decisions by the government. Both the A66 and Lower Thames Crossing have very weak business cases and will cost the UK £billions. So, apparently we don't have money for elderly, disabled, and SEND kids, but we do have billions to pour down the drain for more roads?
We are dismayed that today the government has announced funding for the A66 Northern Trans-Pennine road scheme. It was last costed at £1.5bn in 2022, but the absence of any funding figures in the announcement suggests costs have risen further.
Appalling decision by the government, throwing good money after bad. Apparently we don't have money for the elderly, disabled and SEND kids, but we can find billions for expensive and polluting road schemes like A38 Derby and Lower Thames Crossing? Sending🫂to @A38Expansion
