When four breeding male Hen Harriers suspiciously disappeared from nests in May, two from RSPB Geltsdale and two from the Forest of Bowland, it was clear the females would struggle to raise their chicks alone. The odds were bleak.

A return visit to Barra recently reminded me how special island. Still sorting far too many photos but starting off with the machair... carpets of kidney vetch, orchids, clovers, bedstraw... the list is endless & road verges covered in flora. Just stunning.

Both juv white-tailed eagles showing remarkably well at Farndale this afternoon. Lots of lazily sitting in trees and perched on top of rocks, but pure joy watching them when they do fly - especially when they interact. Absolutely amazing birds. @teesbirds1 @nybirdnews
