Delighted to release the 4th edition of the Indus Valley Report to the interwebs! Hope you all have fun (and learning) reading & reviewing this! @anurag_pagaria @llnachull @dhruvtrehan9 and I spend a lot of hours on this report, and learnt a lot about India and Indus Valley…
The Indus Valley Report 2025 - 4th edition is here!! 🎉 This report is our take on India and the Indian startup ecosystem, through different lenses to sensemake what we call as “Indus Valley” - a catch-all moniker for the Indian startup ecosystem. Here are 14 lenses or frames…
This is for all my young Indian AI founder friends incorporating in Delaware: A SaaS company at ~$100M ARR with 40% of revenues from the US is flipping back to India, raising money from Tier 1 Indian PEs to eventually IPO here.
MoEngage is mainly raising funds to pay the 'flip tax' as it shifts domicile from the US to India ahead of an IPO here. It may have to cough up $100 million as part of this. It is in talks to raise $200 million in a new funding round, led by ChrysCapital, with participation…
I saw this tweet, and there is lots we can talk abt Pune and its potential, but all of the below isn't enough to make a city a hub for anything. Path dependence + concentration of talent in a specific sector is what makes a city a hub and it is v hard for another city to…
Why isn't Pune a fintech hub? Huge respect for Bangalore, but why has Pune been left behind? It is closer to Mumbai, great weather, a functional metro & much else. What is holding the city back, I wonder.
Interesting posit. Fascinating if true:)
I think we’re gonna find out that Chris Martin felt bad, asked GP to help out, and they gave Astronomer an offer to do damage control. Ie my guess is that this is entertainment industry magic happening, not data tech magic.
God-level move. I don't know who advised them but just brilliant!
Thank you for your interest in Astronomer.
Haven't seen too much buzz around this podcast episode but I thought it was one of the best episodes in recent times, for those of us obsessed with the craft of venture, to learn how a GP @nakul thought through design / strategic choices to position @AudaciousHQ in the venture…
Really enjoyed this conversation with my friend @Samirkaji on how we’re building @AudaciousHQ at a time when the VC market has gone from a niche, boutique industry to a mainstream one with hundreds of competitors + capital having become an easily available commodity for the best…
NEW ESSAY: "Dispatches from India" A year ago I was living in New Delhi, India 🇮🇳. I traveled across 10 states and 30 cities+villages writing for The Economist, including a cover story on the economy Since then I’ve been chewing on how to capture what I learned It still…
I thought the recent How I Write podcast episode by @david_perell featuring Alain de Botton was exceptional. So much to absorb. On love, writing, why pleasure inevitably means pain one day etc. So much to like, such as this one below on how he writes now.
Alain de Botton has written ~17 books and runs the School of Life YouTube channel, which now has almost 10 million subscribers. And this is a rare interview for him. Some highlights: 1. A clear night sky is a challenge to everything we think we know. 2. If we really took on…
The Sims 1 came with a manual. At the end, it included a reading list to ‘enhance your understanding of some of the background and social issues entertained in The Sims.’”
Of course, after using @AmericanExpress for 15 years, my account deserves to be blocked for not paying rs 0.57 outstanding. Perhaps one of their biggest global NPAs. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
I study the history of software because most people think code innovation happens in a vacuum. They see React and think Facebook just invented components. They miss the decades of work on MVC patterns, the failed attempts at web components, the slow evolution from server-side…
Founders on my TL who have relocated to the US or are aware of folks who have relocated - what is a good immigration firm you recommend? Anyone who has used Lighthouse? This is for one of our portco founders.
Just ordered. Lots of buzz about this book (return of the 'big business novel' etc.) by @StarrittAlex
