I love all things tokusatsu, kaiju, and J-horror with a focus on the Toho and Ultra side of things.
My tokusatsu and Japanese cinema physical media collection (with some Hong Kong cinema and horror movies thrown in for good measure). Other half of my collection not pictured.

I think people often stopping at Ultraman 66 to judge quality of Ultra series VFX compared to showa Toho toku should instead look at effects in later showa entries of the Ultraseries. Please, at least go to Ultraseven before judging showa Ultraseries effects quality.
Yes. Ultraman starts on an uneven note due to its main SPFX guy being relatively new. But it improves quickly. Ultraseven looks great throughout and from that point the Ultra Series often matches or surpasses Showa Godzilla. Compare Return of Ultraman to most '70s Godzilla films.
Unless the director wants you to watch their work in your native language, once you reach a certain age you should only watch foreign-language media subtitled. This also doesn't mean it's okay to watch foreign-language media without subtitles OR a dub. That's even worse.
What’s your most PRETENTIOUS opinion?
So yeahhh the final episode of Ultraseven "The Biggest Invasion in History: Part 2" has to be like the greatest episode in TV history, right?
What's your favorite post-Showa Era monster from the Ultra Series, and why is it King of Mons?
What are the biggest tokusatsu movies or shows that have yet to have been fully (and accurately) subtitled in English? My vote is on the big Showa era Tsuburaya shows like Mirrorman, Jumborg Ace, Operation: Mystery, Horror Theatre Unbalence, etc. What else?

This officially retired the DaisensoGoji suit. In the next film they'd use MusukoGoji for the water scenes and later Fake Godzilla and briefly a promotional suit.
Happy anniversary to Hedorah giving Godzilla a diarrhea bath
Earlier movies come very close, but Godzilla vs. Hedorah is the first movie where Godzilla is truly the protagonist superhero of the film. Everyone's cheering for him, there's no other big-name monsters (Rodan, Mothra, etc.), and he's got top-billing for the first time in a…

One of my latest research obsessions. In 1947, U.S. servicemen in Japan staged live “reports” of a sea monster attacking Tokyo. I imagine retellings of the hoax are a tad hyperbolic, but it’s a fascinating story — the time postwar Japan was besieged by a monster, before Godzilla!
What are the best tokusatsu shows from 1995-on that are *not* Ultraman?
In celebration of distribution by @Film_Movement, I reviewed Kamen Rider Black Sun director Kazuya Shiraishi's new samurai feature: BUSHIDO! The film screens July 27th at @affd!
Ultraseven episode 31 "The Flower where the Devil Dwells" (1968) is unlike anything seen in tokusatsu before. Ultraseven has to shrink down to battle an alien parasite inside someone's lungs. The effects are truly out of this world.
An example of Koichi Kawakita's SPFX from Ultraman 80. Heisei Gamera SPFX director Shinji Higuchi mentioned it as one of the inspirations on his own films. He noted that Kawakita's pre-Godzilla output drew the most effect from the least set and it was something he strived for.
Heisei Godzilla SFX director Kawakita also directed effects in 80 and many has praised his work there.
I've been making a list of live-action films predominantly featuring yōkai. Not necessarily any Japanese ghost movie or kaidan, but yōkai specifically. I haven't seen many, but man are they eerie and fun.

I've shown something like 7 different people House (1977) on different occasions. One of those was my cousin, and he just didn't get it. He thought that's just how Asian movies were. He also thought it was Chinese.
At my first G-Fest in 2013 (I was a kid) I was holding a Bandai MireGoji and Tsutomu Kitawawa noticed and came up to say hi to me. We took a picture, but unfortunately I can't seem to find it anywhere. Special moment because 2000 was my introduction to tokusatsu and kaiju.
