Check out Verena’s tweetorial Please do use SCIFER. Just needs bulk WGS data to infer selection from drift and give you stem cell dynamics Multi clone SCIFER coming soon Multi clone SCIFER with stem and progenitor cell dynamics in the works!
Our paper on detecting and quantifying clonal selection from a single bulk sequencing sample is out! This was a great collaboration with @pvyas_oxford, Thomas Höfer, @asger_jakobsen and @NaserAnsariPour. Read the full story here: nature.com/articles/s4158…
SCIFER is broadly applicable to whole genome sequencing data from somatic tissues and available here: github.com/VerenaK90/SCIF…
We then studied WGS data from human brain, finding pervasive clonal selection emerging early in life. In 2 cases, selection was associated with mutations known from brain cancer, suggesting pre-neoplastic expansion. For most cases, however, the cause of selection was unknown.

Detecting and quantifying clonal selection in somatic stem cells | Nature Genetics. So pleased to share this work. It is one of the most important pieces of work we have done. Huge thanks to all. More improvements on SCIFER to come! nature.com/articles/s4158…
Clinical significance of preleukemic somatic GATA1 mutations in children with Down syndrome ashpublications.org/blood/article/… 10 year project with Irene Roberts and numerous collaborators. Natural history of myeloid preleukaemia and leukaemia in newborns and young children with T21.
Thank you for this wonderful and impactful collaboration @AlejoFraticelli and Lars Velten!
So many updates from the pre-print!! Thanks to @pvyas_oxford and Simon Raffel, we nor profiled many more individuals, with and without CH mutations. We expand the initial idea from Mitchell et al. that clonal expansions occur more frequently than expected...
Congrats Ari. So pleased!
Congratulations Ari !!! Wonderful news!
Fantastic collaboration with Dan and Puneet! Thank you so much!
Thrilled to share our latest research out today in @Nature: “Microbial metabolite drives ageing-related clonal hematopoiesis via ALPK1” nature.com/articles/s4158…

I’ve had the privilege to train with Peter Marks. I’ve met truly exceptional physicians before/since, but I’ve yet to meet one so devoted to patient care, excellence, and with so much integrity. He saw every patient before we interns pressed the first snooze, always with a smile
Read the first sentence of the last paragraph of this letter. Wow.
Great work Ross, Bobby and the team. A look ahead at informative next gen models.
Great and inspiring study!! Congratulations Bobby, Ross, and the whole Team.
Congrats Eirini! Great work! Impactful+++
🎉Excited to present our latest work out today @Nature 1.What gives a leukemia its phenotype – the oncogenic driver or the differentiation stage of the cell-of-origin? 2.Why do RAS mutations always happen late in AML? 3.Who will relapse after VEN? nature.com/articles/s4158…
