Structural biologist/engineer working to better understand biological systems and engineer solutions that improve human life.
My grandfather built motors that powered big machines. In a lab not so different from his workshop, my colleagues and I uncovered the assembly of the bacterial motor. Today, this discovery has been published in @NatureMicrobiol #MolecularNodes #Discovery nature.com/articles/s4156…
🧠🔬 Can spinal cords heal themselves? By studying animals with regenerative abilities, @CigliolaLab uncovers the molecular signals that could one day lead to #spinalcord repair in humans, which could transform #recovery from spinal injuries and beyond. 👉 medschool.vanderbilt.edu/basic-sciences…
🌀New cover alert! The amazing work of @FlorentWaltz and colleagues made it on the cover of @ScienceMagazine and I had the honor to create the visuals! #sciart #coverart #blender3d
In mitochondria, respiratory supercomplexes (blue) pump protons across crista membranes to create an electrochemical gradient, fueling adenosine triphosphate (ATP) synthase (pink) to regenerate ATP—the energy currency of life. Now, cryo–electron tomography captures these…
I need to rethink my coffee. Espresso’s cholesterol variance is giving me statistical anxiety. Maybe I will filter the chaos. 🤔 nmcd-journal.com/article/S0939-…

It's been a while, but I'm back on YouTube! 👋 Restarting things with a tutorial on 3D visualisations of atomic force microscopy data in Blender. 🔗youtu.be/sZWMcvkazoQ #b3d #sciart #sciviz
Last year, it took me over a week to learn and visualize protein structures in Blender. Today, with Claude and Blender MCP, it took me less than 30 minutes. Thanks to @AnthropicAI, @Blender, and @buildmodels. Special thanks to @sidahuj for the MCP integration.
We trained a genomic language model on all observed evolution, which we are calling Evo 2. The model achieves an unprecedented breadth in capabilities, enabling prediction and design tasks from molecular to genome scale and across all three domains of life.
This year began with a photography tour of the Maha Kumbh. Captured the magic of this once-in-144-years historic and rare celestial event. On this day, over 35M people, including yogis, nagas, and sadhus, took a dip in the Ganges. #MahaKumbh

Congratulations to Jenny Tran of the @dr_bsquared lab! The 2025 recipient of the Dr. Anne Karpay Award in Structural Biology!
I'm happy and humbled to take on a new role with @buildmodels . I'll be continuing @dsgoodsell's work on the Molecule of the Month, starting with my first article on Assembly Line Polyketide Synthases! Check it out (animation included!) pdb101.rcsb.org/motm/301
How to conduct a Science Communication workshop? If you are a passionate science communicator, this is for you! 👇 Let me share the details of a two day scicomm workshop we conducted at @IndSciFest at @IISERPune on building Augmented Reality Applications (AR) for…
If you're in need of festive (bio)molecules, here are some ⭐-shaped suggestions 1: A cyanostar 2: PDB 8I6G 3: PDB 6M6G 4: PDB 6Y83 SMILES for the cyanostar are below, so you don't have to draw it by hand (unlike me 😅) Feel free to add your favorite festive molecule!
New insights from @VandyBiochem into mRNA export reveal how herpes #viruses and others hijack this critical process to infect cells—and its ties to #cancer. Could this lead to novel antiviral therapies? 🔬🦠 Read on in @eLife 👉 elifesciences.org/articles/91432
The 300th (!) installment of Molecule of the Month explores newly-revealed atomic details of one of the wonders of the biomolecular world: the Flagellar Motor pdb101.rcsb.org/motm/300
Announced: The PDB Molecule of the Month for December is the flagellar motor! An informative article paired with a beautiful artwork by Dr. David Goodsell. pdb101.rcsb.org/motm/300 @buildmodels @dsgoodsell #Science #Discovery #PDB This is my favorite Molecule of the Month!
