#OTD 1662 Sir Harry Vane is executed at Tower Hill. He fought the execution of King Charles I, but King Charles II wrote, "He was too dangerous to let live," so he broke his promise to Parliament to spare his life. The "Royal Kill List" Episode 2 shows a bit of Vane's story.

Just saw #TheLifeOfChuck. Beautiful movie filmed in my home state of Alabama. In the days of superhero, mega-sequels, it is an absolute treasure! Run to the theater to see it before it goes.
โA miracle. This film is a balm for your soul.โ THE LIFE OF CHUCK. In Select Cities Friday, Everywhere 6.13.
June 11, 1662, Sir Harry Vane is sentenced to be executed. Evidence included his constitutional proposal to the Committee of Safety in 1659, with the separation of church & state. It was enacted in Rhode Island in 1643 with his help. Witnesses were coerced by Monck pre-trial.

Yass I did a walking tour for histfluencers to promote that ๐ค๐ป๐ #RoyalKillList
Sorry to miss it today. As a teenager in exile, he had an incredibly tough time, & losing his father deeply impacted him. His revenge on the regicides is depicted in Sky Channel's, "The Royal Kill List" with Joseph Fiennes narrating. I think as an older man became a good king.
June 14, 1662 Sir Harry Vane is escorted to Tower Hill as 30,000 people, many weeping, at his beheading. He opposed King Charles I's murder, Charles II wrote he was"too dangerous to let live." He broke his promise to Parliament to spare Vane's life. #RestorationAge365
I was in my early 20s when I first read Rose Thurgoodโs account of her life, written in 1636-7 while she was fearing that she and her four children would starve to death, such was their poverty. This was a completely different voice to those I was used to encountering inโฆ

Corion Evans, a 16-year-old from Mississippi, saw a car with three girls accidentally drive into a river. Without hesitating, he jumped in, swam out, and rescued all threeโthen helped a police officer who was struggling during the rescue. Thatโs four lives saved by a teenagerโฆ

81 years ago today on June 6, 1944, James M. Doohan of Vancouver(and later Sarnia) was shot 6 times on Juno beach while fighting for Canada on D-Day. He would later go on to become Scotty on Star Trek.
On June 6th, 1944 American hero's landed on the beaches of Normandy under heavy fire. The son of a president fought side by side brave men from all across the country. Privilege didn't mean you could take more, it meant you owed more.
June 6th, 1944 โ D-Day โ the day the Allied forces breached Hitlerโs Atlantic Wall at Normandy. It was a battle of the most immense size for the most noble purpose. It saw both the worst horrors of war and combat and the highest deeds of valor and sacrifice. I will never forgetโฆ
#CharlesII sailed between palaces, rushed into battle & travelled Europe, all before his 30th birthday. He was loved & hated. Friends betrayed him, he betrayed family & danger surrounded him. Age 0โ30, his life saw grandeur, intimacy, adventure & conspiracy. #CharlesIICradle
Clint Eastwood: โI long for the good old days when screenwriters wrote movies like โCasablancaโ in small bungalows on the studio lot. When everyone had a new idea. We live in an era of remakes and franchises... do something new or stay at home.โ variety.com/2025/film/newsโฆ
