PGC-FG
@pgc_fg
Functional Genomics working group of the Psychiatric Genetics Consortium.
The PGC Functional Genomics workgroup serves as a dynamic hub for collaborative, open discovery science and scalable method development. We aim to understand how genes, cells and molecules impact the symptoms and course of psychiatric disorders in populations globally.
To celebrate #InternationalWomensDay2025 @DrNiamhRyan and @JMK_Yang have been contacting some of the incredible #WomeninSTEM working in the PGC! Stay tuned as we hear about their research, goals and some of the women who have supported their journeys. #WomenSupportingWomen
Excited to share our latest paper from a collab w Patrick Sullivan and others where results from two different data-driven approaches (GWAS/human-snRNAseq and fMRI) converge on the amygdala and hippocampus as key regions for schizophrenia: nature.com/articles/s4146… 🧵
Open Opportunity.......Hosted by @UniOslo this March, this free online, hands-on training on GWAS analysis is available to Ph.D students on a first come, first serve basis 😀 Register now 👇🏽med.uio.no/klinmed/forskn…

Our first multi-national GWAS on income is out in @NatureHumBehav 🧬💰 - 162 loci (88 novel) - significant heterogeneity between countries - significant heterogeneity between men and women - unique non-education income effects Open Access Link: nature.com/articles/s4156…
Amazing achievement and very exciting to see how #functionalgenomics help to interpret the data 🧬🧠 Check it out to find out the details 👇
It’s the largest genome-wide study of bipolar disorder to date, identifying 298 genetic regions linked to the condition and is the first large-scale multi-ancestry genomic analysis of the disorder, resulting in a newly identified region in East Asian samples!
Did you know it takes an average of 8 years to diagnose #BipolarDisorder? Newly published research from the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium (bit.ly/3JkuokY) aims to improve this by learning more about the condition’s biology. Now in Nature: go.nature.com/3PJhi3W
We have not been around for even a year and today we see the first major @PGCgenetics paper with a @PGC_FG contribution out in print ! Amazing achievement of everyone involved 🏆🧬💪 #bipolardisorder #nature #GWAS #genetics nature.com/articles/s4158…
2nd big PGC-FG group achievement for our first year was our contribution to the #functionalgenomics of the most recent #GWAS on #bipolardisorder by the PGC !🧪🧬🧠 Check out how #functionalgenomics can help add biological context to #mentalhealth related genetic risk variants !
This concludes the PGC's #functionalgenomics working group's first takeover ! Thank you to all contributors and 🙏 for engaging with us over the past two weeks💻 Hope you liked it ! Follow us @pgc_fg to see what is to come in 2025 !
Delighted to see this out! x.com/MolecularCell/…

Head to the @PGCgenetics main account in the next two weeks to see our takeover!
✨Get EXCITED!✨ It's time for the @pgc_fg main account takeover! For the next 2 weeks @BertholdNatasha and @Eva_C_Schulte will be taking you through year 1 of PGC's Functional Genomics Working Group. So join us, as we get to know PGC FG and celebrate 1 year up and running🥳!
We can't believe it's already been 2 weeks since #WCPG24😱 Huge📢shout out📢to our awesome panel and two chairs @MLynall and @HjerlingLeffler for their amazing work! Did you catch us there🧐? Fear NOT! You can find us and our ongoing projects here⏩unc.live/40swzwh⏪

We have been awarded @alzassociation funding to study the epigenome of the vasculature in dementia using single nuclei approaches🧠. We are looking for a motivated postdoc to join us @UKDRI & @ImperialBrains. Post closes Sept 25th & email me any questions. lnkd.in/gmqAFpUr
Our new study led by @ElenaFriligkou is on @NatureGenet! Analyzing 1.2M participants, we uncovered genes and biological processes involved in #anxiety risk. Big thanks to current and former #PolimanTEAM members for contributing to this group effort! nature.com/articles/s4158…
