Government asleep at the wheel
In the last twelve months, Hospitality has lost more jobs than any other sector. 108,000 fewer jobs in total. The Govt urgently needs to start recognising the UKs 3rd biggest employer needs support.
BBC News interview for tonight My Dad on his 90th Birthday with my son having both just swam 90 lengths . Dad has 90 more to swim outdoors this afternoon whilst Sam will be lifting 90,000lbs in weights followed by 9 sets of tennis #ProudMoment givewheel.com/fundraising/61…

It’s really quite easy, incentivise small businesses with less tax and they will grow, invest and employ people creating wealth do the opposite and the opposite will happen Its taken government less than twelve months to create this lack of confidence
Front page of Sunday Times. Small business confidence lowest since 2008!
Anybody in the industry surprised?
“Figures have suggested that more than one in 10 restaurants are at risk of closure this year following the Chancellor’s Budget and NIC hike. More than 4,000 restaurants were forced to shut last year.” telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/…
Who in hospitality is surprised?
100,000 jobs lost across the economy since January - 60,000 fewer people employed in hospitality.
See very little which is pro business at the moment and hospitality is really suffering probably more than other sectors
A good day of meetings with backbench MPs talking about what is needed to support hospitality - VAT cut main discussion point and one which will be reiterated at next week’s Westminster Hall Debate
Lots of these lovely red nuggets around in my garden

The reality of NIC threshold changes laid bare: not redundancies but opportunities lost. It is opening hours being cut, staff shifts and pay being restricted and seasonal businesses not staffing up. If govt wants to get and keep Britain working it needs targeted NIC exemptions

Astonishing numbers - there was a similar fall post Brexit vote in UK - a reminder that tourism is a major export earner for countries across the globe and 9% of America’s GDP

Every time I hear, and I heard it a few times in @RachelReevesMP speech today “working people “ wtf does she think business owners do Not work ?
Living standards down, investment down, growth down, confidence down. This is not a viable plan for the hardest working in our society and not the Labour I voted for.
So true someone bigging themselves up who has never been at the sharp end of business
An annual reminder that it is businesses not governments who give their teams a pay rise but we can collectively only make work pay if jobs still exist and too many are now at risk in sectors like hospitality and the high street
