Good to hear Downing St has today ruled out a tourism tax
Talking to @itvlondon about tourism taxes - we are already the most heavily taxed sector of the economy and 139th out of 141 countries for price competitiveness. Let’s not tax London #LetsDoLomdon

"If you're already the most highly taxed visitor destination, the last thing you should do is put an additional tax on as a bed tax." Our Chair @UKHospKate spoke to @LBC this morning and explained why a tourist tax is detrimental to hospitality, tourism and consumers.
"It’s crucial the commission embarks on a partnership approach with business and consumer groups to reach the right balance," @UKHospKate said to the @guardian. We've responded to the launch of the Pensions Commission 👇 theguardian.com/money/2025/jul…
Access to work is not just an economic imperative it is a social and moral one too Hospitality could provide the jobs and supported pathways to work the country needs but not while it is being #TaxedOut thetimes.com/comment/column…
Bar, café and retail jobs are society’s heartbeat thetimes.com/comment/column…
The more you tax us to employ people, the less people we will employ…the more you increase costs of doing business, the more we will have to increase our prices. It’s not f’kin rocket science. Inflation ⬆️ Unemployment ⬆️ You cannot tax your way to growth! #TaxedOut

This is lovely - a poster in self catering places across the country from our friends at PASC. Reminds you why hospitality matters - visitors spend money everywhere. #TaxedOut
We're calling for the Government to permanently lower business rates for hospitality businesses in this autumn's Budget, alongside fixing NICs and a cut to VAT. The Daily Mail covers our calls for change, to stop hospitality businesses being #TaxedOut. dailymail.co.uk/money/markets/…
Increases to employer NICs have resulted in 84,000 hospitality job losses since the Budget. Our Chair @UKHospKate told @BBCBreakfast that "you can't balance the nation's books on the backs of hospitality workers". We need to see the Government fix NICs, lower business rates…
Kate Nicholls, the chair of industry group UK Hospitality, said the Government should 'deliver permanently lower business rates' for the sector in this autumn's Budget. thisismoney.co.uk/money/markets/…
Fully support these pragmatic amendments to the employment rights Bill - consultation and impact assessments matter
Unlike big corporates or public bodies - SMEs don’t have HR Directors/teams, or in-house legal employment experts to handle complex industrial relations with trade unions So we need some sensible lawmaking in Parliament, tomorrow A 🧵 on amending the #EmploymentRightsBill👇 1/
A smart, controlled, balanced scheme for young EU visitors would be good for tourism, studying and work experiences - a positive step thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

It is not just businesses being #TaxedOut its customers too. Visitor levies have an admin burden and cost to businesses too but measures like this make us less competitive as a tourism market - and we are already 139th out of 141 countries
Glasgow City Councillors have approved a 5% #VisitorLevy starting in January 2027. 26% direct tax on tourism with VAT, VL, and VAT on VL. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
Great question from @Forestferret1 - do we have draft letters to send to MPs? Yes - for hospitality businesses and for customers. Both at this link in the “how you can help” bit👇 ukhospitality.org.uk/campaigns/taxe… @UKHofficial @UKHospKate
Absolutely fantastic Thank you Have been getting everyone and anyone I can on board, this will help so much. If we all work at this together we've got a chance. A slim one but a chance, we just can't let them pit us against each other, we're stronger together
