Ever wonder why pubs are going bust and you’ve queried going out with your mates? It’s because THE GREEDY TREASURY and Prohibitionist lobby groups means YOU (🫵) pay 12x more tax on a pint than in Spain. H/t @Sacha_Lord for the graphic and numbers
The current Chancellor is overseeing more devastation in Hospitality, than during Covid. She needs replacing with someone who will support and understand the importance of the UKs 5th biggest sector. Over 80,000 job losses on her watch since her Budget. Mainly young people.
In the last twelve months, Hospitality has lost more jobs than any other sector. 108,000 fewer jobs in total. The Govt urgently needs to start recognising the UKs 3rd biggest employer needs support.

Manchester has been buzzing with bucket hats, music and parkas... even in this heat! As Oasis reunite and play at Heaton Park, I couldn’t resist a bit of a light hearted, Oasis themed wrap-up for the last Business Questions of the summer … 🎶
Stop saying “inflation unexpectedly rose”. Not a single person that works in the City or finance is even remotely surprised.
Inflation up again, citing energy and food. A VAT reduction for Hospitality is needed now more than ever.
Sunday Times reported that confidence in small business is the lowest since 2008. Growth starts with small independent business. They are the beating heart of our high streets. They are the ones who need Govt support. The big corporates can turn to their banks and…
Nothing to see here… Just a clip of The Chancellor calling out the previous Govt for raising NI against the strong advice from business. “Making each new recruit more expensive.” “Adding pressure to businesses when costs are already going up, like energy and supplies.”
The PM URGENTLY needs to come out and categorically confirm no tax rises for Hospitality in the budget. We are already one of the most taxed sectors. Businesses are closing. 69,000 jobs have been lost since the last budget. Communities and High streets are being ripped apart.…
We start the week off with some bad news. 69,000 jobs have been lost in Hospitality since the budget, with more to come. The budget was a disaster for our sector, which many warned about. We urgently need to reverse this by lowering the NI and by bringing VAT in line with…
Oasis reunion. A great day for music A great day for fans A great day for local businesses. Most of all, a great day for their mum, Peggy, to see her boys back on stage together.
Great to catch up with our supportive industry partner and Chair of the Night Time Industries Association, Sacha Lord, in Manchester today. We had a constructive conversation about the challenges currently facing hospitality, opportunities on the horizon, and how we can…
I’m so pleased Lewis Capaldi has made a triumphant return to Glastonbury. One of the nicest, humblest artists who ever played for me. Management were irresponsible for letting him on stage in 2023…too many times we’ve seen management think more about their percentage over…
We @TMOFCharity at The Maggie Oliver Foundation have taken the HUGE decision to seek a Judicial Review in an attempt to ensure the 20 recommendations made in the first ‘Statutory National Enquiry’ @IICSAVSCP led by Alexis Jay are implemented without further delay. This is the…
If the authorities can't stop drugs getting into a Category A prison, what are event organisers supposed to do with a field? My article in todays @CityAM cityam.com/glastonbury-we…
Your industrial strategy failed to mention Hospitality or the Night Time Economy even once. In terms of jobs, people are making redundancies and cutting hours. You’ve ignored the 5th biggest sector and the 3rd largest employer in the UK.
We are home to some of the most innovative businesses in the world. Our Industrial Strategy will ensure they can thrive. That means more jobs, more opportunities, and more money in people's pockets.
