Cognitive neuroscientist studying how we pay attention, associate professor of Psychology @UChicago, CAB Lab director, @monicarosenb.bsky.social
Interesting work on memory: Memorability and sustained attention can be leveraged in real time to improve memory performance. #NEIfunded @UChicago @BradyRTRoberts @WilmaBainbridge @monicarosenb @MdeBettencourt @SpringerNature: bit.ly/3EoPrUA
This work is now out! Check out our paper on generalizable brain network model of surprise. Grateful for @monicarosenb for being the most supportive mentor!
In this Article, @zzwziwei and @monicarosenb build a model that predicts surprise from brain network dynamics revealing similarities across distinct contexts (task learning, basketball watching, and cartoon viewing). @UChicagoPsych @UChicago_Brains nature.com/articles/s4156…

Understanding cognitive processes across spatial scales of the brain Review by Hayoung Song (@HayoungSong5), JeongJun Park (@JeongjunPark2), & Monica D. Rosenberg (@monicarosenb) Free access until Dec 24: tinyurl.com/4tdc8amk
Our brain operates at various spatial scales, from local to global. Do they govern different functions? A broad review on multiscale brain & cognition, out in @TrendsCognSci spanning Cog/Sys/Comp Neuro work in 🐭🐵🧑! Team @JeongjunPark2 @monicarosenb authors.elsevier.com/c/1k2DP4sIRvTB…
Excited to share our review paper with @HayoungSong5 and @monicarosenb, now out in @TrendsCognSci🚨! We propose that each brain spatial scale may uniquely contribute to cognitive functions. authors.elsevier.com/c/1k2DP4sIRvTB…
AHA! What's happening in the brain at moments of insight?🧠💡How do we comprehend ongoing causal structures based on memory? #sfn2024 Come find out in our talk on Wed 11am, NANO56.13! session Human LTM: Encoding and Retrieval🙌 CHI❤️
Interested in longitudinal similarity and reliability of the resting state connectome in youth? I'll be presenting at my first SfN #sfn2024 on Wednesday from 8-12, Board S6. Stop by and ask me questions! #BlackInNeuro
also advertising for my friends :D @HayoungSong5's aha moments in narratives (NANO56.13), @jadynspark's arousal-enhanced memory (NANO56.11), @AnnaCorriveau's audio-visual attention (NANO22.04), @zzwziwei's surprise model (PSTR093.07), @Mina_Kwon_'s alcohol craving (NANO28.06)
Wonder how mind-wandering predicts functional brain organization and behavior? At #SfN24, I’ll present work w @monicarosenb where we studied resting-state thoughts with in-the-moment probes and fMRI. Come find me at poster A94 (LBA008.008) on Tuesday Oct 8 from 11a to noon!
Reminder that @ImagingNeurosci is accepting submissions to TWO special issues through early 2025: Imaging Genetics (direct.mit.edu/imag/pages/cal…) & Optical & Acoustic Neuroimaging (direct.mit.edu/imag/pages/spe…). Consider submitting & sharing!
Happy science fact of the day: It's a year since the first Imaging Neuroscience paper was published, with 280 papers since then. Hence in just the first year, over half a million dollars has stayed within academia, rather than going to Elsevier [shareholders etc].
The Rising Stars Symposium seeks to create community among historically marginalized postdoctoral scholars and introduce them to UChicago scientists. Speakers are chosen based on research project merit and department alignment. Apply today! redcap.link/RisingStars2024
Our new preprint on attentional lapses is out, with A. Bonnefond, Ed Vogel and @monicarosenb! We showed that objective (out-of-the-zone) and subjective (mind-wandering) measures capture distinct fluctuations of sustained attention. ⬇️ biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Officially a tenured associate professor today! Grateful to students, colleagues, collaborators, mentors, reviewers, letter writers, challengers, family, friends, & role models across the globe who navigated this wild ride with me. I’m extraordinarily lucky to be here.
Super excited to attend @OHBM for the first time! At #OHBM2024, I will present my work with @monicarosenb on “The neural signatures of ongoing thoughts during rest” (poster #957, summary below). Looking forward to connecting with old and new friends!
plugging in my friends’ awesom-er posters! @tommy_botch's dark matter of the🧠(#0948), @zzwziwei's surprising surprise (#0952), @jinke828's ongoing thoughts at rest (#0957), @jadynspark's arousal & memory (#1705), and @AnnaCorriveau's visual & auditory sustained attention (#2451)
Excited for #OHBM2024 in Seoul!🇰🇷 I'll be presenting "Neural mechanisms of insight during narrative comprehension" on Poster #1084🧠💡 My poster is filled with discussion points, so please drop by to share your wisdom!
