That spark of defiance, of convention, tradition, expectation, of how things have always been done and of Westminster, built the city. If we want to honour a legacy we can start by rediscovering that spark.
Today I paid my respects, alongside colleagues from @BhamCityCouncil and @BM_AG, by signing the book of condolences at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Ozzy was a working-class hero of Birmingham, with raw talent, resilience and a spark of defiance - a true son of the city.
An incredible tribute today from the @TheCBSO today in New Street Station.

I would love to be able to experience voting for someone with as much hope and enthusiasm as New Yorkers get when they vote for Mamdani.

We're taking action to stop migrants working illegally as food delivery drivers.
Utter bollocks. Govt could nationalise for pennies. It doesn’t need to take money from any other budget, it issues the £, it’s own free-floating fiat currency, it has an infinite supply of £, it can never run out or go bust. Ever. What HMgov is short of is sense and morals.
“I'm not going to focus on ideology." It would cost £100bn to nationalise water companies and the government would have to take that money from the NHS and education, Environment Secretary Steve Reed tells @krishgm
🚨 NEW: Britain's manufacturers want the government to restore the original HS2 line to Leeds and Manchester. High-speed passenger rail will increase capacity – generating space to shift freight from road to rail. #RailFreightFuture
Good stuff
The public realm improvements on the southern half of #ByresRoad have been successful, with retail unit vacancies below pre-pandemic levels and a far more attractive environment there, and work on the northern half will begin next month. More info 👉 ow.ly/aMGH50WtNU4
If you think any hotel run by Britannia Hotels is 'upscale' you must live in a box under a bridge. The buildings they own ought to be jewels in their local area. Britannia turns them into dirt.
This I can’t believe. The upscale Britannia Hotel in swanky Canary Wharf with its en-suite bathroom , TV and spectacular views of the Thames have closed the door to residents and replaced them with 300 young male Channel migrants. I know a couple who are paying a small fortune…
It’s been 356 days since a road safety emergency was declared. The cabinet member has made no progress on any recommended action. The healthy streets audit hasn’t been released. The Cllr who established this at scrutiny has been deselected. The injunction does nothing.

Birmingham Osbourne station would be a much better name for Curzon Street 👀
The govt were going to introduce legislation such that anyone could find out who owns what property. I think if the public knew who owned some the city’s most suspiciously flammable buildings they would suddenly be a lot less flammable.
Birmingham cinema 'deliberately' targeted as fire crews rush to scene. *Sigh* and still authorities won't do a thing to take Harborne Royalty off negligent owners. birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-…
