"Anything else you’re interested in is not going to happen if you can’t breathe the air and drink the water. Don’t sit this one out. Do something. You are by accident of fate alive at an absolutely critical moment in the history of our planet." — Carl Sagan

Americans could be tipping waiters the price of the meal, losing their two days paid holiday, and begging for medical bill donations after developing cancer from the neighbouring asbestos factory, and they’d still be on here screaming at Europeans about how much AC the U.S has.
Danny Dyer: “Nobody in politics is likeable. Where's the working-class people? They should be running our country, not people pretending they’re working class because they’ve had a pint in a pub.”
Agyemang’s sheer will to win was incredible from the moment she came off the bench. Challenging every decision; constantly pressing the keeper; running the Italians ragged. She was a ball girl at the last Euros. A ball girl! The English Dream? Completed it, mate.
96 MINUTES. UP STEP MICHELLE AGYEMANG! 😍
Yes. Writing is not a second thing that happens after thinking. The act of writing is an act of thinking. Writing *is* thinking. Students, academics, and anyone else who outsources their writing to LLMs will find their screens full of words and their minds emptied of thought.
“The socialism I believe in is everyone working for each other, everyone having a share of the rewards. It's the way I see football, the way I see life.” - Bill Shankly
By 68, I’ll have been paying NI for 52 years. The problem isn’t that *I* haven’t ‘saved enough’, it’s that we have abandoned the contributory principle of social security. Making people work longer to pay the pensions of those who have never worked is politically unsustainable.

Every year, around 300,000 Americans open GoFundMe pages to pay their medical bills. And people in the U.S still die on average 5 years earlier. Only the U.S billionaire class lives as long as we do. That's the 'rich' country smug 'growth' propagandists keep telling you about.

The United States of America has twice the GDP per capita of France and yet France looks like this 👇 while Alec’s kinfolk are paying medical bills by begging on GoFundMe. I don’t know a single sensible person who would choose U.S ‘growth’ over European prosperity.
Thinking about this observation from @tylercowen again:
Just found these two @IKEAUK trolleys on their side obstructing the pavement. I pushed them back. Nobody else was going to do it. U.K GDP is $5k more per person than France, yet there was zero litter and grot when I was in France recently. There’s more than one way to be poor.
U.K GDP is $5000 more per person than France, yet there isn’t a speck of litter on the streets or beaches of Brittany, where I’m holidaying, and, by 2026, the French will retire five years earlier than us. Economic growth cannot solve the problems of our unwell society.
From Post Office to pub. What will it be 50 years hence? Who knows? But it will still be here. Attractive buildings recycle. Ugly buildings get thrown away.
'Brazil passes ‘devastation bill’ that drastically weakens environmental law' Disastrous day in the war on nature as Brazilian agriculture and logging interests get their way, again. We have one home. We're destroying it. We must be mad. theguardian.com/world/2025/jul…
People with or without driveways don’t own the public highway and other taxpayers shouldn’t be paying to allow them to annexe it. Several on-street rapid chargers on every street is perfectly sufficient.
I prefer this proposal. A new PD for cable channels so people without driveways can still charge their cars.
The American mind cannot comprehend how they have double the GDP per capita of France, yet the French live like this while they use GoFundMe to pay their medical bills.

Get yourself a wife who looks at you like I look at these boys.
