Ofcom already knows how difficult it is for platforms to adjudge what user content is and isn’t illegal, let alone be required to act as arbiters of truth. #OnlineSafetyAct
"If Parliament decides to widen [laws] towards misinformation... Ofcom stands ready to implement that" Ofcom CEO Melanie Dawes says it is important for her regulator to "focus on the job we've been given" #BBCLauraK bbc.in/44Qk3HJ

Finally, an admission of what we all knew. They lied. Everyone lied. But now it’s too late and story has been told. And it’s the same old story. This correction is tucked away after days of absurd accusations about immoral blood lust. Too little too late. You can’t take it back
“If 18% of biologists believed in creationism, that would be a big deal. Why? Because creationism is nonsense. Similarly, if 18% of social scientists believe in Marxism, that too is a big deal. Why? Because Marxism is nonsense.” betonit.ai/p/the_prevalen…

My experience in my own life is different. Generative AI fuels curiosity, encourages and supports critical reasoning, and - yes - is absolutely creating false texts. Just as professors need to teach *how* to use Wikipedia, it's time to teach *how* to use AI.
Generative AI kills curiosity, critical reasoning, and is absolutely creating falsified records. This semester I found projects/papers with: 1. Bibliographies with sources that dont exist 2. Fake quotations from REAL books 3. Fake quotations from FAKE books 1/5
I would use the law of gravity, as illustrated here:
What is the best way to prevent this plates from breaking? What law of physics would you use?
I find this so very odd. None of it is real! None of it happened! Nothing even particularly *like* it has happened! It's a good programme but you can't learn anything real from it. It is literally made up.
