Leading public worship (the reading and preaching of the word and prayer) carries spiritual authority. Consequently, this responsibility should ordinarily rest with the elders of the church, with exceptions made for licentiates and interns. Regrettably, many churches in the PCA…
There was an effort in the late 1800s to water down Presbyterianism (which critics called "broad churchism"). As the mainline Presbyterian churches became liberal in the 1900s, they even considered Pan-Protestant mergers. This ecumenical spirit exists today in the PCA, as…
The Westminster Confession recognizes varying degrees of the purity of public worship. "particular churches...are more or less pure, according as the...public worship performed more or less purely in them." (WCF 25.4)
God was glorified, Christ was proclaimed, and the resurrection was longed for with great anticipation today.
As I prepare to preach the funeral of a precious little one this morning, I am comforted by the words of B.M. Palmer: “This little soul which I had hoped to lead through knowledge up to God, must I not lead it still another way, seeing that He calls for it from above? Ah,…
“Another effectual mean and method for advancing and promoting regularity and order in lives and conversations, is the civil magistrates concurrence with the ministers, and executing duly, and impartially, penal laws against scandalous offenders, and visible immorality.”…
The fact that you can walk into PCA churches and find a variety of different styles of worship and practices is very unfortunate. It not only undermines the RPW, but also makes it difficult for PCA members to transfer to other churches within the same denomination.

"The state should punish by the sword what the church has censured by the Word." - Francis Makemie Listen to more from @irishpresby 👇🏻
"And whatever others have done, I dare affirm, I never bargained with any people about a Maintainance; and have oft refused money when freely offered, and never enjoyed any maintainance, but what was most freely offered to me; though I deny not to the Magistrate, a power of…
Makemie doesn’t deny the magistrate’s authority administer the maintenances of ministers in principle though he prefers, as a prudential matter, they collect their salary from the voluntary giving of their parishioners. This is kind of nuance feels extremely common to the…
"As I stand by the little grave, and think of the poor ruined clay within, that was a few days ago so beautiful, my heart bleeds. But I ask, ‘where is the soul whose beams gave that clay all its beauty and preciousness?’ I triumph. Has it not already begun, with an infant voice,…

A great article over at @Truth_Script by my friend @bretwaldrep on the language of “superior” and “inferior” in the Westminster Standards. truthscript.com/theology/super…
There is one way to change the theological standards of the PCA. BCO 26-3. To amend the Confession or Catechisms you need 3/4s of a GA, 3/4s of the Presbyteries, and 3/4s of a subsequent GA. That’s it. Allowing ministers to teach their granted exceptions in our churches and…
Christians should love the brethren for various reasons—because they are united to Christ along with us, because God commands us to love them, because that is what kingdom-recipients do, and because we want our faith to produce evidential fruit at the judgment.
My favorite part about this is that John MacArthur called out @CAgovernor on Larry King and then years later beat him in the courts over the Covid lockdowns.
John MacArthur was a warrior for the truth in an age filled with lies. He will be missed.
"If someone wants to be like John MacArthur, the way to do it is not by turning him into a ministry formula or by attending his institutions - it is by being like Jesus." A great new article from @jonharris1989
