The literary depth and disciplined reading habits of early 20th-century miners easily surpass those of many contemporary students, including some with English degrees.
Friendly reminder that the builders of Babel set out to create artificial language and ended up breaking natural language instead
“We are birthing superintelligence. We are creating the mind of God, infinite, destined to solve every problem we’ve ever faced and usher in an age without death.”
Currently reading Radical Son, David Horowitz's memoir of his upbringing in a Communist family, as a creator of the New Left, and his break with the Left as a whole. Here he recounts meeting Ralph Miliband, father of our environment secretary Ed Miliband, during time in London.

Firstly, why? Secondly, with who, with what, and how? Absolutely delusional. Our army has fallen below the size where it can actually be called for an army, for example, while our naval forces are paltry and alarmingly non-functional for a lot of the time.

Between the slop of 5 minute YouTube summaries and AI, at no point in Modernity has it ever been easier and more important to outperform others in the life of the mind All you have to do is spend time reading the primary texts Nothing from YouTube or AI holds a candle to that

I've finally got round to reading @GlennLoury's memoir, Late Admissions, and it is as good as the positive reviews said it is. Loury is unsparing concerning his (many) past indiscretions and bad behaviour, but also writes with a sense of hope and humility, in wonderful prose.

The reaction to immigration's negative consequences isn't a result of malign perception management, but a recognition of its material realities and their consequences. Not everything is down to media messaging and comms.
And who turned up the thermostat?
Stanley Tucci's three tv series in Italy are just such perfect, easy viewing.
Excellent issue of @SalisburyReview. I especially enjoined @intothefuture45, @ColinBrazierTV, @GergelySzilvay and @Janekelly25 contributions.
