Could we identify broad-spectrum resistances able to recognize structural families of effectors? During her PhD, Nacera Talbi demonstrated proof of concept with the Rlm3 resistance protein, which can recognize members of the LARS structural family. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Our proposed engineering solution - iterative searches for optimal immune receptor alleles. In future, we can do these rounds in silico, today - we need to collect data. @KyungyongS accumulated over 6,000 infiltration data points - all guided by rational design logic circuit
To bypass this problem, we relied on an iterative computational workflow that can be refined with experimental data: i) derive a model, ii) mutate charged residues to their opposite charges, iii) test the interaction of receptor and effector mutants, and iv) refine the model.

Figeno, my visualization tool for genomics🎨🧬, is now published in Bioinformatics! doi.org/10.1093/bioinf… It can generate publication-quality figures for sequencing data along genomic coordinates: bigwig, HiC, @nanopore data with base modifications, and WGS with CNAs and SVs.
