New work open access in @OxfordRevEd: tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10… Social in/justice and the deficit foundations of oracy. What are the language ideologies at the foundation of 'oracy' and how is it increasingly used as part of a social justice narrative? A lengthy thread follows…

children can tell us so much about what language is and how language works
i asked my 5 year old what language is and he said it’s like when words come out of your body and into someone else’s 💕
Really pleased to see this paper out in JET: tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10… part of our work on the experiences of ITE academics with UCET. If you haven’t filled in the survey yet, it’s here: forms.office.com/pages/response…
In Palestine we used to say 'if only the world could see the Nakba of 1948 and the role of Britain in the land theft of Palestine'. We were actually wondering if things would have been different? 77 years later we know the answer. We also see the role of Britain then and now
I often think about how humanitarians in Rwanda said 'If only the world could see, if only they knew — they would act.' Well, the world does see Gaza. The world knows. And there will be no excuses when the reckoning comes. The trials will last for years.
'But what happens when our institutions fall silent in the face of mass child death? What does it reveal about whose lives are valued, whose grief is legitimised, and whose suffering is too politically inconvenient to name?' Not only about Gaza, about YOU bps.org.uk/psychologist/w…
To the starving children in Gaza who don't cry, who don't show excellent oracy skills with rich vocabulary and accurate grammar, who don't speak foreign languages fluently.. Humanity sinks in shame. Everything we once held dear and believed in is dead. Our souls are crushed.

you're currently arresting pensioners protesting this and charging them with terrorism
The suffering and starvation unfolding in Gaza is unspeakable and indefensible.
You helped. You gave Israel military support and diplomatic cover. Your complicity in this horror is unspeakable and indefensible

donating to Palestinian-led organisations on the ground in Gaza is the best way to get help directly to Palestinians. two organisations are @Reviving_gaza and @sameerproject - please donate whatever you can
Keir Starmer has described the situation in Gaza as "intolerable on many levels", just not the one where Britain stops arming Israel
Donate. It's been urgent and desperate for 21 months and now it is critical.
⭕️In #Gaza, hunger has become a daily reality for everyone. we cannot ignore this suffering. It’s time to act. #LetAidIn #OpenUpGaza
"I am very comfortable with the support that we give to Israel" - David Lammy, House of Commons, 3 Sept 2024. This quote and this picture should be on every billboard in Tottenham at the next election.
I don’t know how anyone can get up, function, go to work, and act as if all is normal and fine while millions of people are being starved to death by Israel, just across the Mediterranean. And all with the knowledge our government is complicit. It is unbearable.
Amnesty International: Israel is deliberately starving Palestinians Doctors Without Borders: Israel is deliberately starving Gaza UN expert: Israel is deliberately starving, killing children Human Rights Watch: Israel engineered mass starvation Media: Gaza food crisis spreads
"Faced with the systematic destruction of Palestinian life in Gaza, other states must together produce a systematic, comprehensive and concrete response. If not now, when? What more would it take to convince them?" #GazaStarving #GazaGenocide theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Refugee Education in a Time of Heartbreak and Failure. Our @BERANews keynote is now advertised on Ashlaa - the scattered human and language remains in the rubble - looking at education with Eritrea, Palestine, UK and beyond with @KhawlaBadwan @HyabYohannes
A pedagogy of heartbreak for a responsible and response-able scholarship that speaks to life with genocide, trafficking and the profitable trade of killing. A keynote that centres education as a moral practice in times of utter failure @BERANews @alison_phipps @HyabYohannes
