Where does the name Pothohar come from? Pothohar is the northern plateau region between the rivers Sindh (Indus) and Jhelum. Its most likely etymology is from Sanskrit *pr̥ṣṭhadhāra meaning "plateau" derived from pr̥ṣṭhá "back" and dhā́rā "ridge".
