Glad @DouthatNYT is coming around to the cruelty of Israel’s war. But it’s a fundamental misconception to see Oct 7 as the start of a conflict rather than a horrific escalation in an ongoing one. The war is part of a long occupation and settlement project that is also unjust.
In @nytopinion “Despite the fundamental responsibility that Hamas bears for all the horrors of the conflict it initiated on Oct. 7, 2023, Israel’s warmaking at this moment is unjust,” our columnist Ross Douthat writes. nyti.ms/3TZD05S
'What do you make of our own government's reaction so far?' - @TrevorPTweets 'Not enough... Can we focus on the issue at hand, it isn't the recognition of the state... the issue is stopping children and mothers from starving in Gaza' - Campaigner Bob Geldof 📺 Sky 501
Let’s try this headline again: “The people of Gaza are being starved by Israel”
‘There is nothing to buy’: Gaza’s descent into mass starvation on.ft.com/40EaHxs
Bob Geldof explains why he's speaking out about Gaza now. Yes people should speak out now, but we are where we are because Israel has been given impunity to commit its genocide over the last 21 months, & people with platforms choosing not to speak out have fed that impunity
“If Israelis want to protest, stuff your cars full of food and drive through that border and let your own army stop you.” Irish singer-songwriter, Bob Geldof, pushes back on Sky News’ Trevor Phillips, who repeated Israeli claims that Israel is not starving Palestinians in Gaza
It’s Day 8 of Gaza surviving on nothing but salt and water. My ribcage is visible now, our bodies are fading like everything else we’ve lost. Our homes are gone. Our families torn apart. Even our flesh is being stripped away. We are starving, grieving, heartbroken, & forgotten.
How Israelis are reacting to the growing realisation that they are committing a genocide. How hope Ori will write an important book on this, no one better placed to record it for the future
I was overcome yesterday. The vileness pouring out of Israeli society shut my mouth for 24 hours. It was an immediate reaction, not anger or sadness. I couldn't speak. I broke out in hives for the first time since I was diagnosed. I think I tried to reject reality. I'm back.…
South Africa's failure to request additional provisional measures for over a year has been mystifying. "According to a source close to its legal team, the intense pressure from Washington has had an effect." If so, my government has found new ways to disgrace itself. 5/
This passage is misleading. The Court found fully conclusive evidence that the massacres at Srebrenica were committed with genocidal intent, and that Serbia failed to prevent them. The legal meaning of that finding will be revisited in the Myanmar case and the Gaza case. 4/
Our focus must remain on prevention and protection. That said, from an accountability perspective, delay strongly favors South Africa. Every day brings new evidence of genocidal intent, and alternative inferences appear increasingly unreasonable. 3/
States cannot wait for an ICJ judgment to take action. They have a legal duty to act in the face of a "serious risk" of genocide. They also have a legal duty to ensure that Israel respects IHL, and a legal duty to cooperate to stop crimes against humanity. 2/
This should put to rest the nonsense idea that “quiet pressure” is best. The only way to get this Israeli government to change its behavior is through massive, widespread international public pressure. Keep it up. End the war.
🚨🚨🚨The IDF is going to implement humanitarian pauses in the fighting in several population centers in Gaza starting Sunday morning and until Sunday evening to allow the UN and other aid organizations safe access for the delivery of aid, Israeli official tells me
Ben Gvir says they used the Sabbath against him to make aid alterations
I will be on BBC "Weekend" shortly to explain why what Israel is doing in Gaza IS genocide.
Witnessing the catastrophic hunger and suffering of civilians, especially children, women, the sick and elderly, in Gaza has been heartbreaking. The crisis in Gaza must be met with an immediate and drastic surge in life-saving resources, such as desperately needed food, water,…

The starvation of people in #Gaza must end now. Standing with UN and NGO colleagues ready to deliver desperately needed, lifesaving aid to hundreds of thousands at risk of death. A ceasefire followed by meaningful peace talks are urgently required to put an end to this tragedy.
One day, everyone will have always been against this - including, apparently, Sen. Klobuchar
People are starving in Gaza. It’s unacceptable. Over 100 aid groups have issued an urgent call to action. I attended a meeting this month with the Israeli PM so that I could make the case for more Gaza humanitarian aid and to stop the displacement of Palestinians. I never got a…
This is an insane text and Ross should be deeply ashamed of it. Without even going into the worst passages, his own paper completely refutes his main argument in the very same edition he published this!
I candidly prefer Bret Stephens open bloodlust to this moral obfuscation around assumed goodness of “civilized nations.”
Israel’s propagandists are currently running a smear campaign against a starving child, claiming that he isn’t actually starving.
3-year-old Mohammed Al-Matouq is suffering from severe malnutrition due to the ongoing blockade on Gaza and the continued denial of humanitarian aid and nutritional supplements.
Badenoch lies. Israel has allowed limited aid into Gaza & only after international pressure. Israel had adopted a stated policy of using starvation as a weapon of war.
