When I was a newly qualified doctor in 2017, a typical hour on call might involve: – Being bleeped non stop to prescribe fluids or meds – Managing sepsis, post-op bleeds, heart attacks, strokes – Starting resuscitation solo while the arrest team rushed in – Breaking bad news and…
The bottom line with all NHS staff, not just doctors, is that unless you make the NHS a decent place to work, with a decent enough salary to be able to pay off your debts and afford to buy a house near where you work, or at least know where you’re going to be working in the next…

Exactly👆 1) It makes little sense to create something new when there’s an existing infrastructure (ie: assets-based development) 2) A parallel set of providers increases fragmentation (inefficient, poorer quality of care) Why not just build new services onto practices?
🗣️ | @wanderingwelch: “We already have teams of experts bedded into local communities – they’re called GPs. “It would save a lot of time and reshuffling to involve them and give them the funding to provide care.”
🗣️ | @DrSteveTaylor: "The problem with the 10-year plan is it focuses on neighbourhood health centres without acknowledging there are more than 6,000 of them in the community called GP practices." dauk.org/10-year-nhs-he…
