A fifth natural short sleeper (NSS) variant (N783Y) was identified in a gene called SIK3. N783Y reduces the normal catalytic activity measured as phosphorylation of HDAC4/5. Human finding is supported by a mouse model that partially recapitulates the NSS phenotype.

A comprehensive fine-mapping of bipolar disorder GWAS signals by @MKoromina et al. in @NatureNeuro Great work with beautiful visualizations! nature.com/articles/s4159…

Delighted to have our preprint led by @lvchosen1 up: Genetic variation reveals a homeotic long noncoding RNA that modulates human hematopoietic stem cells biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 🧵 below ...
we're recruiting for a scientist to join our Talent team @newlimit this is a unique chance for a scientist to move into the business & ops side of biotech. we imagine recent PhDs & postdocs looking to transition away from the bench are great candidates. you'll be working very…

To the 23andMe Community, I am incredibly excited and humbled to share with you that TTAM Research Institute (TTAM), a new non—profit medical research organization that I founded and lead, has completed the acquisition of 23andMe. I formed TTAM and pursued the acquisition of…
Most studies on clinical utility of exome sequencing in intensive care focussed on pediatric patients. In a new study in AJHG, the authors assessed diagnostic value of exome sequencing in critically ill adult patients and found a surprising 24% diagnostic yield, many with…

This is super cool! Looks like a tremendous resource for biologists who'd want to leverage the power of AI to accelerate their workflows.
🤝Excited to announce @ProjectBiomni × @AnthropicAI! AI agents are set to transform how biologists do everyday research. Thanks to this partnership, the platform is now free for scientists worldwide: biomni.stanford.edu Learn more: anthropic.com/customers/biom…
Our new paper on ancient DNA to address the spread of Uralic languages now out in @nature (we started working on this in 2018). Many interesting results, including a sample from ~16k years ago Yakutia that can be modeled as an unadmixed Native American. nature.com/articles/s4158…
Despite Alector's failed Alzheimer's trial targeting TREM2, companies haven't given up on TREM2, which is a genetically validated target for Alzheimer's. Below is a list of TREM2-targeting therapeutics currently in development From a recent correspondence by Colonna and…

Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk at various polygenic score (PGS) percentiles compared to median group (40-60%). In addition to APOE, other risk variants as well contribute significantly to AD risk, independent of APOE (but clearly APOE is the single most important risk factor in…

Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) after intake of different types of food (n= 55 participants). Look at the rice spike! Rice is one of the major factors that drive diabetes risk in South Asians. Ref: Wu et al. Individual variations in glycemic responses to carbohydrates and…

Nice systematic analysis of gene convergence between common and rare variant GWAS discoveries. Not often we see common and rare variant studies implicating the same set of genes for a trait. This convergence is rare particularly for traits under strong selection like early…

Transplanting dopaminergic neurons-enriched fetal midbrain into adult brains for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The transplant didn't benefit clinically, but it blows my mind that it's possible to do with safely without major adverse events. Ref: Vivian Tabar. A trial of…

Just realizing that "TTAM" in TTAM Research Institute, a non-profit founded by Anne Wojcicki, stands for Twenty Three And Me. Lol
$INMB raised money today with full knowledge of the Alzheimer’s study data, per a source familiar with the transaction.
The unfolding drama of $INMB is hilarious! Another Cassava in the making?
