Mayo Clinic just confirmed a new, simple blood test capable of diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease with 95% accuracy at a fraction of the cost and invasiveness of brain scans and spinal taps. The test measures p-tau217, a protein linked to the amyloid plaques that mark Alzheimer’s.…
We need Health Canada to have a serious look at our medication supply chains. We have commonly used essential generic drugs that are not available because of manufacturing and supply chain issues. Spironolactone is now not available. This is a generic and very important…
And very preventable. You don’t want measles.
Measles is an extremely contagious virus that can lead to severe disease and cause complications, including pneumonia, inflammation of the brain, and even death. For more information: news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2025H…
Actually quite fascinating. Hard to imagine 10 years from today let alone 50 years. Unless of course we blow ourselves up in the interim.
A Johns Hopkins robot known as SRT-H removed a gallbladder by itself with 100% accuracy after watching surgery videos. It identified arteries, clipped ducts, cut tissue, and even adapted when the visuals changed mid-procedure. It followed voice commands like "grab the…
Canadian ERs closed their doors for at least 1.14 million hours since 2019, records show - The Globe and Mail theglobeandmail.com/canada/article…
Well this is interesting. AI is going to disrupt medicine more than anyone can imagine. Huge potential. Huge risks too.
BREAKING: Microsoft says it has developed an AI system that creates a 'path to medical superintelligence' that can deal with 'diagnostically complex and intellectually demanding' cases and diagnose disease four times more accurately than a panel of human doctors
When you have 5 internal medicine docs covering a busy 100 patient service with 15 to 20 new patients a day being admitted 24-7 it’s pretty tough. That’s going to be 70 plus hours per week per doc. It’s actually just not sustainable.
More doctors standing up to say ‘enough is enough’. Give us the resources we need to do our jobs and care for patients. cbc.ca/news/canada/ne…
The F1 movie is excellent. In a theater on a big screen.

I’ve flow in to Whitehorse 168 times in the last 20 plus years. The views blow me away every time. It never gets old.

For many, the uses & potential benefits of AI are still theoretical, but for a lot of BC's healthcare providers it's already part of their daily medical practice It's also going to be a foundational element at @SFU's new medical school Part 1 in a series: ctvnews.ca/vancouver/arti…
If you use BC Hydro and you charge an electric vehicle at home you should log on to your account and make sure you choose time of day pricing. It’s a simple click. It can save you money. You set your car to charge in the overnight hours and you will save $. The trade off is…

cSBC stands in full support of the BC Society of Emergency Medicine and their recent letter addressing systemic issues in emergency care. We echo the call for a safe, respectful, and accountable environment for all healthcare providers. #SpecialistCare #EmergencyMedicine…
This makes me really angry. Firing physicians for speaking out is ridiculous. She is an excellent Emergency Physician. We have trouble staffing our ERs. Now we’re are going to fire docs for speaking up. cbc.ca/news/canada/br…
What is really important to notice on the numbers you posted many will not understand is “ALC” This stands for alternative level of care. It is a way to designate a patient who no longer needs to be in an acute care hospital or bed but there is no home support or long term care…
How come nobody is talking about hospital overcapacity in BC? Some hospitals are running at 130-150 percent capacity Hospital running overcapacity is dangerous One nurse told me they were told to start moving stretchers with patients languishing in the emergency department for…
I’m not surprised. The e-referral initiative, while well-intentioned, feels like yet another healthcare IT project destined to cost too much and deliver too little. As one of BC’s busiest nephrologists, I receive a high volume of referrals and was an early adopter of the…
As a physician lead on a critical piece of work modernizing our system. After 2 months there has been 0 effort from the review team to connect with physicians, despite being provided our contact information multiple times. @RobShaw_BC @Dave_Eby #BCPoli theorca.ca/commentary/rob…
I have been told I am too critical of my university and BC policy. We have a massive need for my specialty. There is no one to hire, and look, I asked residents in Ontario to help me out, because no one in BC takes responsibility. 18 years ago, when I moved here, not one single…
I love the sunshine. Solar panels on our roof have averaged 54 kWh daily the past month. That is enough to power our daily household needs (minus electric vehicle). BC hydro buys the power full price from your solar array when they need it most in the daytime and you buy it…

It’s actually insanity that we train 3 (yes three) physiatrists per year in BC for a population of 5.5 million. In other news no one has been able to explain waiting list times but it’s being studied. We should have answers in 2035.
Canada will one day pass Spain in population. I am opening a meeting with 1000 rehab doctors. We will never see this number. This region Galicia has a small 5 residents a year for 2.7 million. BC 🇨🇦’s worst will see 3 next year up from 2 for 5.5 million. Why?
