Our paper in @NatureHumBehav is now out. We showed that unseen contents associated with null perceptual sensitivity can be reliably decoded from neural activity in higher-order areas in single human observers and deep artificial networks. nature.com/articles/s4156… @ASSC
anyone interested in working on analysis of *directed* graphs of whole brain networks (at the region-to-region level, i.e. high SNR fMRI data in mice)? e.g. making predictions using network control theory & testing them? we're hiring. ping me at [email protected]
🔝 We have a new PhD in #BCBL! Congratulations to @patxelos on the successful defense of his PhD thesis, ‘The Role of Perceptual Awareness in Ensemble Perception: Psychophysical and Neural Mechanisms’. 🎉 ✅ @d_soto_b & Martin Hebart have been the directors of his work.

Thrilled and honored to share that I've been awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant! 🎉 My research will explore how bilingualism could boost the brain's resilience to dyslexia. Excited for the journey ahead! #ERC_Research #ERCCoG #Bilingualism #Dyslexia erc.europa.eu/news-events/ne…

The #NobelPrizeinPhysics2024 for Hopfield & Hinton rewards plagiarism and incorrect attribution in computer science. It's mostly about Amari's "Hopfield network" and the "Boltzmann Machine." 1. The Lenz-Ising recurrent architecture with neuron-like elements was published in…
This paper began as a chance encounter with David Carmel in 2017 and now paves the way for a whole new psychophysics - all thanks to the heroic work of @Renzo_Lanfranco 🙏👍😃
In our new @NatureComms paper, we investigate the visual system's priorities for extracting meaningful information from faces and bringing it to conscious awareness. We use a new tachistoscope that enables visual presentations as short as 0.002 ms: nature.com/articles/s4146… (🧵👇)
Accounts of learning typically focus on learning from external observations. But sometimes we learn without external input - we "learn by thinking". In this review, out today in TiCS, I consider learning by thinking across natural and artificial minds...
Like humans, artificial minds can learn by thinking. Researcher @TaniaLombrozo reviews this phenomenon in her @TrendsCognSci review: cell.com/trends/cogniti…

New paper out this week. Double-blind clinical trial of decoded neurofeedback for specific phobia. Coolest thing I've taken part in now in print. Was a privilege working on this with @hakwanlau, Mitsuo Kawato, @ADRC_UCLA & @Vincent_T_D onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/pc…
What is the nature of sensory prediction error signals in the neocortex? Our research published in @Nature reveals that these error signals are amplified responses to unexpected inputs, mediated by a cooperative thalamocortical circuit mechanism! 1/4 nature.com/articles/s4158…

New preprint on bistable perception, led by @FritschMerve: In people with a stroke in the inferior frontal cortex, conscious experience is slower to update in response to conflicting sensory signals biorxiv.org/content/10.110…. This suggests that IFC gates access to consciousness!
For folks who aren't able to attend in-person, we are excited to be able to stream all talks this year on our youtube channel: youtube.com/@cogcompneuro Papers can be found here: 2024.ccneuro.org/poster-session… Please share!
are you going to @CogCompNeuro? Check out @AsrariAzimi 's poster! we're super excited to use diffusion models trained with RL to understand DecNef! Diffusion models and reinforcement learning: Novel pathways to modeling decoded fMRI neurofeedback 2024.ccneuro.org/poster/?id=255
