The mother of Nina Larson explains more. USAO DC has basically stated on the record that because the public at large empathizes with driver killers more than pedestrians, unless there’s a DUI situation you can kill pedestrians with your car without real consequences

Correction: It is @DCAttorneyGen and not @USAO_DC pursuing the charges. And it's misdemeanor charges for reckless driving and failure to yield. According to my rudimentary reading of the code, that could mean up to a 250K fine and potentially a max 90+30 day sentence.

That it has taken over three years, is disappointing. But nonetheless pleased to see @USAO_DC pursue cases of traffic violence.

Three years after 24-year-old Nina Larson was killed on Columbia Road, someone has been charged in her death. Sophia Maltas pleaded not guilty this morning to failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and reckless driving.
