@TheCrick crick.ac.uk/news/2024-07-2… so sad to say goodbye to my mentor, colleague and friend. He made research fun and exciting
I’m thrilled to share I’ve been selected as a 2025 Schmidt Science Fellow @SchmidtFellows Looking forward to starting my next research adventure, investigating how organs and organisms measure and regulate their sizes 🐟🧠🫁🫀 crick.ac.uk/news/2025-04-0…

Really great piece from @nmensah5, Abib Duut and Mohammed Shaaban on the importance of equitable international collaboration.
Early-career biologists @TheCrick argue that global research collaborations should be more equitable and encourage their peers to step up. We are junior scientists from emerging economies, the world needs more researchers like us solving global problems nature.com/articles/d4158…
UK visa costs are some of the highest in the world. Reviewing and addressing these high costs is a necessary step in attracting and retaining international scientific talent.
The cost of visas for scientists at our research institutes is set to rise by 44% in a year. This will discourage scientists from coming to work in the UK and take vital funds away from our life-saving research. We’re calling on the new government to make its #First100Days a…

The @TheCrick is opening our doors to families this Saturday – come and have fun while learning about some brilliant science.
Join us this Saturday 20 July for Discovery Day! 🧪🙌 We’re opening the Crick up to families for a fun-filled day of activities. Will you become an ‘immune cell Avenger?’ 🦸🏽♀️ Or does a science magic show sound like your thing? 🪄 🕒 Explore from 11.00am crick.ac.uk/whats-on/disco…
Proud to see my PhD work published in @embojournal! We developed PUFFFIN, a cellular neighbour-labelling system, and demonstrated its effectiveness both in vitro and in vivo. In mESCs, PUFFFIN revealed that cells synchronise exit from naïve pluripotency with their neighbours.
Positive Ultra-bright Fluorescent Fusion For Identifying Neighbours (PUFFFIN) allows visualization and isolation of surrounding cells in culture, tissues, or embryos, for profiling non-cell-autonomous responses @_CellySally_ et al embopress.org/doi/full/10.10…
Highly recommend this by @Pselaphinae on the evolutionary origins of organs Proposes a framework for division of labour and subfunctionalisation for evolving organs Insightful, synthetic, & well written. Important implications for the single cell field annualreviews.org/content/journa…
Congratulations to Edith and fantastic news for @TheCrick. We're looking forward to welcoming the @heard_lab to London.
We are delighted to announce that Professor Edith Heard has been appointed as our new director and chief executive! Edith, who is currently director-general at @EMBL, will succeed Paul Nurse in leading the Crick from the summer of 2025. 🔗 crick.ac.uk/news/2024-07-0…
Wow - big news! This is a fantastic appointment by the Crick, though a loss for EMBL... I had the pleasure of interviewing Edith some years ago: you can find out more about her science, her career and her interests outside the lab here: journals.biologists.com/dev/article/14…
