So bad. And this chopping and changing is why electrification costs so much.

“Ignore the complaints about the Treasury Green Book; we should invest where we get the best return. Economic growth should be prioritised ahead of reducing regional inequality.” Greater Manchester has been the fastest growing place over the past decade so assume you mean there?
How to get growth? Reassure the markets re the sustainability of the public finances; stop driving away the wealthy; build houses & infrastructure in London & Ox-Cam; get closer to the EU. A @NewStatesman piece with something to upset almost everyone. newstatesman.com/politics/uk-po…
This is a very "guy who's been away ages" chat, but Leeds city centre has seemed progressively better in recent years. There was a long period post-2008 where I thought it was death spiralling. Now v few vacancies, lots of nice restaurants, less obvious social decay on show
Bumped into @thomasforth on the train a few weeks ago. We discussed how driverless taxis are now an actual thing in many places - and at scale (over 25 million miles in Phoenix AZ for example), but so many UK transport experts think it will never work here.
This is where you can ride in a robotaxi TODAY!
Hello @grok , if I was elected head of state, can you list ten policies I would likely enact within the first 100 days based on my posts
Absolutely brilliant playing by #ScottieScheffler. We are witnessing one of the greats at the peak of his powers. Wonderful golfer who comes across as a great guy also.
Champion Golfer of the Year.
When it comes to the “playing golf” part of playing golf, Scottie Scheffler is quite good
Mind blowing thread on how our planning system means that a few snails are valued more than human lives. Anyone who has driven along this stretch of road will know how dangerous it is. 🤯🐌
On Thursday night, we heard that government was making big concessions on its planning bill, putting lots more controls on its nature recovery plans. I find this disappointing. And to explain why, I have to tell a story I’ve been holding off from sharing.
An interesting take.
I'm committed to continuing to fight for an end to poverty, reducing inequality and restoring our natural environment for future generations.
Making planning reform a pillar of your growth strategy and then gutting it would be soooooooo "all pain, no gain"
A thread of reactions to the Government neutering Part 3 of the Planning an Infrastructure bill 👇 There are a lot of disappointed YIMBYs out there
Britain saw itself as a rich country in 2008. But rich countries don’t remain rich by standing still. Britain hasn’t built a reservoir since 1992, a nuclear power station since 1995, or a new motorway since 2003.
So Man City have had 115 charges against them for years and had both them and Girona in the Champions League with no consequence, but Palace are relegated to the Conference League at the first time of asking? Sound.
Not “a person of significant financial control” apparently. #CPFC

Just a reminder that Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis in October 2024 was banned for five matches after spitting at match officials after his team Nottingham Forest lost 1–0 in their Premier League match against Fulham. #CPFC
What I need explaining to me is why Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig can play in the same competition. Manchester City and Girona can play in the same competition. But Crystal Palace and Lyon cannot.
Appalling decision. The double standards!others get away with their financial irregularities. Stitched up in 1991 and stitched up today. 🤬 p.s. A message to Textor: hope the door doesn’t hit you on the way out. p.p.s. The owners of Nottingham Forest are despicable. #CPFC
BREAKING: Crystal Palace have been demoted to the Europa Conference League next season after a UEFA ruling. Sky Sports News understands Palace will appeal this decision via the Court of Arbitration for Sport 🚨
I wrote a report in 2009 analysing the significant economic benefits of MML electrification. We concluded it would pay for itself through lower operating costs over a 60 year appraisal period. Then there are the CO2 savings. The project was announced in 2013, then cancelled. 😡
Sheffield will remain Britain's largest city without electrified rail travel after the government 'paused' plans to electrify more of the Midland Mainline. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
No wonder the bond markets are in despair. Also, the scale of the inter-generational unfairness!
The triple lock has cost around 3x more than expected. In our central projection, the triple lock explains 1.6pts of the 2.7% of GDP rise in state pension spending. If recent volatility persists, it could add a further 1.5pts; a steadier path could reduce it by 1.3pts.
