Finally cranked out a new pod. My guest is the great writer @CorpasWriter. We talk about his new book - The 4-Belt Error. Great discussion about boxing throughout its history and how older fighters are given short shrift for not being "champions". open.spotify.com/episode/2sK1tt…
Will be interested to see who supports this over say reintroducing the Professional Boxing Amendment Act that addresses a lot of the criticisms of the original Ali Act instead of trying to bypass it as this would do.
Congressman Brian Jack of Georgia today introduced a bipartisan boxing bill backed by TKO that aims to create a parallel system to the current sanctioning body structure that has been an impediment to new players entering the sport.
Wow - haven’t watched a lot of Okolie but he’s as boring as advertised. Lerena not helping by plodding forward not throwing much.
For those keeping score of the Haney lawsuits: Haney refiled his suit against Golden Boy for breach of contract/unjust enrichment re Haney's percentage of Garcia's returned purse in late April in NYS court - around the time he settled the battery claim against Garcia in Fed Ct.

No more #boxing on ESPN, Fox, Showtime, HBO, ABC, CBS, NBC, FS1, USA, none of the Spanish-language nets, etc. All were heavily invested at one time or another. Now none are because powers that be served up too much crap & didn’t provide outlets with value for their millions.
The last Top Rank event of its ESPN contract airs Saturday. After that there’ll be no regularly scheduled #boxing on linear TV in the U.S. for the 1st time essentially since the early 1940s when TV became widely accessible. Shame on the stewards of the sport who let it happen.

Also I'd imagine every major promoter is going to want to start their own UBO - I'm not being a sanctioning body defender here - but won't this just encourage more isolated leagues and less collaboration?
Been covering Vegas fights, both MMA and boxing, both PPV and small hall, for 5 years Vibes tonight are amongst the best I've experienced A freaking movie happening right before our eyes This is theater. Boxing rules
I had the guy at Dave and Buster’s turn on the volume for the entire room for this Okolie-Lerena fight. I feel the need to apologize to everyone here now. What a shit fight.
Pretty exciting news for card collectors - Topps is putting out their first boxing card set since 1951 with Topps Chrome Boxing. This set has been in the works for a bit apparently and will feature fighters from Golden Boy, Top Rank, and Matchroom.
Andy Lee absolutely on fire as a trainer… Parker, Donovan, Whittaker, Sheeraz… what an education. Using that Steward-Booth knowledge and experience.
3 PPVs in 8 days is a new boxing hates its fans low for a sport seemingly seeking suicide at this point.
Great night of fights - Shakur-Zepeda should have been the main event. Off of this fight, hopefully, Shakur will get his respect and top billing going forward. I’d love to see him and Tank by end of year. But that would make too much sense.
Between June 28 and July 19 @DAZNBoxing has 3 PPVs -- in addition to either the annual or monthly subscription fee. What are we doing here?!! #boxing
Damn - great win for Wardley. Wardley is a fun heavyweight to follow. Definitely has a legit eraser with that right hand. Another Eddie fighter getting beat by a Frank fighter. Damn. Wardley vs. Michael Hunter (if he gets past Pulev) is another intriguing heavyweight matchup.
Heavyweight boxing, nothing better
Good to see a big broadcaster get back to this - just picking the best matchups instead of doing exclusive deals with promoters. It would be nice if a bigger US network did the same.
🚨 SKY SPORTS WILL NOT RENEW BOXXER DEAL As widely expected, Sky Sports will not be renewing their four-year exclusive contract with Ben Shalom's BOXXER, which expires on June 30. Sky's strategy moving forwards will see them pick up individual fights from a range of promoters.…
Mike Perez and Steven Ward meet in Ipswich tonight for the WBA Continental cruiserweight title. Aloys Junior defended this last month - I wonder if he knows? And I wonder if Perez and Ward realise that two other boxers are to contest the same belt in France in five days' time?
Every one of the once-a-year fighters today like to talk about "ducks", or being avoided, or not getting their props. Mike McCallum never got his shot against Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, or Duran. He was avoided like a Jamaican category 4 hurricane. He would have been a danger to…
