Thread: a collection of concrete cases of substitution & demand reduction in the energy crisis. Economic theory predicts that, as prices rise, households & firms reduce demand and substitute. We're starting to see more and more such cases I'll collect these here as we go along.
I'm so messed up that I read this and wonder if I can talk him into doing the definitive RCT on the effect of inherited wealth. Primary outcomes: productivity, social and civic engagement, happiness, health, intergenerational effects.

What I worried about has happened. A completely unequal “deal” between the US and the EU. Have no doubt: asymmetric 15% tariffs are a EU defeat. When the law of the jungle prevails, the weak have little choice than to accept their fate. But Europe could potentially have been…

This is the end. The Nord Stream saga is finally over for good, 20 years after it was launched by Schröder and Putin.

Despite talk of lessons from🇺🇦 & the rise of drone warfare, Europe clings to its old platforms & ways of fighting. Future advantage will come from AI-enabled systems to out-sense & out-decide enemies - & overwhelm them with autonomous mass @TheEconomist economist.com/by-invitation/…

Incredibly saddened to hear about Ghazala Azmat's premature death. She was a wonderful and kind person, this is an immense loss for the economics community.
Extremely sad news: Ghazala Azmat, an excellent economist and a wonderful person, died last weekend. My sincere condolences to her family, her colleagues at Science Po and CEPR, and the many friends she leaves here at LSE (where she studied) and everywhere she went.

With great sadness, I announce the passing of my co-author and friend, Marcus Hagedorn. His acerbic wit was as sharp as the vision of Toni Kroos. He attacked big research questions like he tackled the mountains of Mallorca on his bike. He will be missed.
Shocking news. RIP Marcus.
