1. What is Neo-Idealism? (seeing as many of you have asked) It’s a new approach to Grand Strategy & International Relations that I think we can see emerging in responses to #Russia’s war & from #Ukraine’s brave resistance. 1st 🧵in a series on #NeoIdealism 1/25

Juli.…
Thank You @IgorZhovkva for this excellent exchange in #Kyiw. Our dedication to continued military assistance and to accession process for #ukraine remains unbreakable. Important is that we have tangible process within upcoming months. We owe it to Ukraine and to ourselves! We…
Had a meaningful conversation with @SLagodinsky, MEP and Co-Chair of the #Euronest Parliamentary Assembly. Grateful for his consistent support of #Ukraine and the active position of the @GreensEFA group 🇪🇺 Discussed key priorities: continued military assistance to Ukraine,…
Great to be in London for the @RUSI_org event on Euro-Atlantic Security My priorities (to which Ukraine is integral): - Readying ourselves to defeat a Russian attack (& thus deter it) within 3 years - Readying our defence industrial base for the long-term competition we’re in

While Ukrainians are terror bombed on a daily basis, rich Russians live in Europe like kings and queens. This young lady lives in Portugal, and travels freely to Ibiza...
absolutely!
BUT, remember, it’s not the technology that brings change (technology brings the possibility of change, not military change itself) - it’s adapting so that you can adopt and employ the technology in ways that deliver that asymmetric advantage which matters.
Thanks to @MTSavill @alessionaval & other panellists for excellent contributions & great to see @Ziya_Meral & other great folk at the event!
Revolution or Evolution in Military Affairs? - and does it even matter? YES & here’s why 🧵
I recommend Charles Kupchan as a historian of U.S. foreign policy - his book on American isolationism is excellent. But when it comes to Europe, Charles has consistently been wrong. He opposed NATO enlargement during the Clinton years, already arguing then that it would provoke…
1/11 The recent Foreign Affairs essay „Close NATO’s Door to Ukraine” by @CharlesKupchan foreignaffairs.com/ukraine/close-… offers a determinist interpretation of post-Cold War international politics, suggesting that Russia’s aggression was a foreseeable response to NATO enlargement. It…

And for that to happen we need to get the tech into hands of our militaries *at scale* so they can Experiment Exercise Test Train With new tech to work out how to best integrate it into ways of fighting that overmatch enemies.
Technology doesn’t bring change, it brings the possibility of change - IF we evolve our doctrine, OpCon & force structure to realise the asymmetric advantage it can offer Great to be part of this discussion at @RUSI_org with experts @alessionaval, @MTSavill @c21st_sailor& more

A. @bctallis made quite possible one of the best points of the evening: technology creates opportunity. I still nod at this as I type now. Where do we think is the divide between radical and incremental change? Lots of thoughts leadership coming from him last night;
The argument for AI defense is a complex one with many pros and cons but AI is rapidly transforming warfare as we have seen and Europe needs to keep pace with other global leaders or potentially face serious repercussions in the future. You pick your poison.... Article below 👇
Despite talk of lessons from🇺🇦 & the rise of drone warfare, Europe clings to its old platforms & ways of fighting. Future advantage will come from AI-enabled systems to out-sense & out-decide enemies - & overwhelm them with autonomous mass @TheEconomist economist.com/by-invitation/…
We’re not for land mines. We’re against occupation. And ready to do whatever it takes to defend our freedom.
Estonia has formally notified its withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention. Due to the deteriorating security situation in Europe caused by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, 🇪🇪 must give its Defence Forces flexibility to strengthen national defence. vm.ee/en/news/estoni…
