Isolated in just 3 years! (Much faster than the 12 years in our previous study). We cultured two strains from 'Hodarcaheales', proposed to be closest to our archaeal ancestors. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
This study sheds light on the complex evolutionary history of Asgard archaea: not all Asgard archaea evolves by genome expansion.
These putative hyperthermophilic archaea possess unique genomic features and have evolved thorough genome reduction, suggesting they may have a symbiotic lifestyle.
We carefully investigated the phylogenetic placement and metabolic evolution of Panguiarchaeum (prev. classified within Korarchaeia), and found that they are Asgard archaea.
biorxiv.org/content/10.110…. An interesting, fulfilling project from my PhD with @anjspa1,@tweethinking ,@ChristianRinke ,@Ettema_lab ,@sllsi ,@drenal_eu ,@hua_eee_lab and Maraike Probst.
In collaboration with Deem Team @DEEMteam_Orsay, we uncovered the complex interactions between haloarchaea, nanohaloarchaea, and their respective viruses and virus satellites in salt lakes. See 🧵 #DPANN #archaealViruses #Satellite biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Phylogenomic analyses reveal that Panguiarchaeum is a clade of genome-reduced Asgard archaea biorxiv.org/content/10.110… #biorxiv_evobio

Many novel Asgard genomes, cultivated Lokiarchaeia, new phylogenetic analyses: what insights do these and other recent studies provide into the enigmatic origin of eukaryotes? In this review in @Nature , we discuss the latest findings and open questions: nature.com/articles/s4158…
We are #hiring a #postdoc on atificial intelligence and integrative methods for comparative genomics and metagenomics. Pls RT check this: bsc.es/join-us/job-op…
Move over, Norse Gods – Marvel at new Asgard archaea named instead (@luisarchaeota) for the Puerto Rican goddess of the soil, Atabeya. Atabeyarchaeia is a new member of the lineage now widely believed to have given rise to eukaryotes – that is fungi, algae, trees and us.
📢We are hiring! A post-doc position (computational or wet lab) for 3 years at @IBE_Warszawa @BiolUW in the @NCN_PL #SonataBIS project on #protist & #symbiosis. Apply by 30 September 2024 Please RT & share! 👉 More: ibe.biol.uw.edu.pl/en/projects/sy…
