I study the history of software because most people think code innovation happens in a vacuum. They see React and think Facebook just invented components. They miss the decades of work on MVC patterns, the failed attempts at web components, the slow evolution from server-side…
Difference between an idea and a plan
Every time someone proposes training a model for some domain (virtual cells/materials/whatever), the first sentence should be: input data: x, output data: y, loss function: z. Would make it a lot easier for dum dums like me to understand what exactly is being proposed.
You can tell this person is PMG-brained from the list. NYC, DC, SF, and LA are not where you'd go to work in stuff like energy, real estate, commodities, or manufacturing.
There are only four tier-1 cities in the 🇺🇸: New York (finance) DC (government) San Francisco (tech) LA (media & entertainment) No other cities are power centers for aspirational talent. Sorry.

This is by far my favorite thing of the day.
Huh no just one server Why would you need multiple servers for frontend and backend?????? What world you guys living in 😂 You just $.ajax() and then PHP receives it and you put it in the db or do something with it and return json_encode(array('success'=>false,'data'=>'bla'));…
Lots of people are resisting the idea that @levelsio doesn't understand some basic programming concepts. But he hasn't needed them! I'm sure he could pick them up if he needed to. This is one reason why textbook style exams are a bad way to see a dev's potential.
I swear I'm not complete sure I've never used React etc but I vaguely know that it means smth like when you press a button some data property changes and that data is tied to an interface like a label or button etc and that then auto changes If it's that, I do that myself with…
Engineering is about applying scientific principles to the problems of economic production. There’s a a place for science and art. But there’s also a place for just grinding through.
This is officially my favorite tweet, ever. @levelsio doing $248K/mo without knowing what state is. It's proof that solving problems and execution is way more important than whatever you’re currently procrastinating on.
This works for me too. Being able to cycle between projects helps overall productivity because it allows you to productively shift gears when you're stuck.
The secret to productivity is having multiple projects going at once. If you’re a natural procrastinator—which I can be—you’ll often find yourself avoiding the one thing you really need to do. But instead of doing nothing, you trick yourself into working on something else that…
When it first came out I asked ChatGPT what the fastest and easiest way to make a billion. It said that it was not allowed to help people commit crimes.
If this is true it’s disgusting.
Here is most of what I’ve gathered on the Windsurf / Google Deal The founders and dozens of engineers are going to Google. This group, along with the preferred shareholders will be sharing the $2.4B headline number. The exact split is unknown but investors are making some money…
Software engineers receive a smaller percentage of the productivity they generate than most professions. We just don’t notice because they get paid so much in absolute terms.
Compensation curves for IC engineers at *big companies* has always been incorrect in my view. What Zuck is doing right now is taking steps to align compensation with value. I've always admired sales teams because no one would bat an eye if a few of the star salespeople on a team…

A week or so ago my wife decided she was going to learn how to make, in her words, legit sourdough. Did a bunch of research. Bought a starter from some place that claims over 200 years of continuous use. This was her first ever batch.
This was always going to happen as compensation catches up to productivity. But it's also another sign of tech transitioning into a mature industry where the safer, narrower path is more rewarding than the scrappier, garage based one.
NEWS: Zucc offered $200 million to poach Apple’s AI Chief > Apple’s CEO compensation was $74.6 million last year lol > Zucc offered 3x more than Apple CEO > Apple didn’t try to match the offer… LMAO
What someone should really put together (maybe me) is an intro to web dev course that includes vibe coding as part, but not the whole, process. It really helps supercharge and makes the ramp smoother but it's not nearly sufficient on its own.
Yes I can say first hand that vibe coding is harder than it is sold as.
As a foundling, Superman would have simply been registered as adopted. Even today under 8 U.S.C. §1401(f), an infant found in the U.S. with unknown parentage is presumed a U.S. citizen at birth and citizenship becomes incontestable after 21. Superman could run for president!
Technically it’s an illegal immigrant story
Oh no. This is like knowing what a floppy is for the next generation, isn't it?
mf where else can you get apps from
I agree, or at least don't disagree, with most of these. Except for 1. 1 is a skill issue. Your job as a VC is to find those good companies before it's obvious. The earlier and less obvious, the better returns you get.
A redditor shares their 50 brutally honest takeaways about venture capital: 1. There are not enough good companies out there to justify the amount of venture funds in existence. 2. It used to be a requirement for VCs to have company building experience, but that has gone away…
