Docta puella. Metic in Athens. "A Poet is the most unpoetical of any thing in existence." Oxford Professor of Poetry.
I have some new followers, so thought I might mention that this book is now out, has had positive reviews in TLS, The Spectator, and The Wall Street Journal, and I think would be a good summer read, if I do say so myself: pauldrybooks.com/products/friez…
Not good, I suspect:
Earth Has Tilted 31.5 Inches. This equates to .24 inches of sea level rise. That Shouldn't Happen Pumping Earth’s groundwater has changed the planet’s tilt and rotation. popularmechanics.com/science/enviro…
It is bizarre to remember "Compassionate Conservatism". What has happened to us?
Trump is now rounding up Dreamers- children brought here illegally by their parents, raised as Americans. Most have no connections to their parents home country. We used to agree that it would be cruel & waste of 💰 to deport them. nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna2…
Family member whose son is detained in the Everglades detention camp says conditions are so bad, her son and others are going on hunger strike to protest. Her son had to undergo surgery while detained.
"Van a hacer una huelga de hambre entre todos (...) los tienen bañándose con agua congelada cada tres días, siguen los maltratos, están que no aguantan más": asegura Yaneisy Fernández, madre de un migrante detenido en ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ ntn24.com
The other teams should refuse to play. The US teams should protest and refuse to play.

The evil is also a grift:
Another $10,000,000 contract posted for the Everglades Immigrant Detention Camp -- again, with NO details, but the money is going to IRG Global, a company that has made political donations to the Republican Party of Florida and other GOP state leaders. What a grift!

(Nice to run into a Tennessean near Monteagle at a local BBQ food truck wearing a blue baseball cap with the legend: Make America Intelligent Again.)
A family member whose loved one is detained in the Everglades detention camp told me he has been there for 22 days. Contrary to DeSantis’ assertion that people are given the option to self-deport, this person hasn’t even seen an immigration official at all since being detained.
UnAmerican:
Is Trump’s America a suitable location for the World Cup and the Olympics?

This is a wonderful idea--and if you already have her books, perhaps get copies to share with friends. Let's spread Jane's words far and wide.
What if everyone--wonderful that it is so many!--who remembered @NorthDakotaJane here bought her in-print books from @lambingpress and read them? Or gave them as gifts? Bouquets of words, full of life, from Jane Greer to us...
All of this is a stain on our honor. A stain.

Correct:
I'm not sure that people realize how abnormal it is for journalists to be killed in wars. More have been killed in Gaza (232) than in the Civil War, World Wars I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War (+Cambodia and Laos), the Yugoslav wars, and the Afghanistan war, combined.
Utterly sick:
We did this to him. This government. This country. We condemned him to this torture because he dared to follow our own laws and seek refuge here. Utterly sick.
